Kirk Cameron.

If you’re a woman you’re going to want to deck this guy for what he just said.

During an interview with the Christian Post this week, evangelist Kirk Cameron said that no matter how wives are treated by their husbands they should be submissive and stay in the marriage because God commands it.

“Wives are to honor and respect and follow their husband’s lead, not to tell their husband how he ought to be a better husband,” Cameron said before claiming that women should know their role so that the marriage can succeed. “When each person gets their part right, regardless of how their spouse is treating them, there is hope for real change in their marriage.”

In other words, even if she is being beaten daily by her husband and treated like a slave, a wife should always remain submissive and basically let her husband do whatever they want without consequence. And it’s all because the Bible says so according to Cameron.

“A lot of people don’t know that marriage comes with instructions,” he said. “And, we find them right there in God’s word.”

Seriously. This is the “advice” Cameron has for women.

Someone should call Cameron’s wife and make sure she is okay because the former child actor clearly thinks domestic violence is something wives should just ignore instead of saving themselves and getting out of the marriage.

Cameron is, of course, part of the conservative Christian fundamentalist movement which repeatedly preaches that women are nothing more than common house slaves meant to cook, clean, raise children, and talk only when their husbands give them permission to do so.

Just take pastor Steven Anderson for instance.

In February, Anderson posted a sermon in which he preached that women should be banned from voting, barred from seeking divorce, prevented from entering the workforce, and ought to be confined to the home where they are submissive to their husbands.

“The right to divorce your husband is what they mean. You know what they mean? The right to rebel and disobey your husband, the right to divorce him, the right to go out and get a job and make your own money, the right to tell him what to do, the right to go vote for our leaders as if women should have any say in how our country is run when the Bible says that “I suffer not a woman to teach, not to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.””

Here’s the video via YouTube:

Two years earlier, Anderson demanded that women shut their mouths in church so that the men could teach them. You have to wonder if Cameron believes that, too.

Anderson has also preached that women shouldn’t be allowed to talk, read, or leave the house.

Basically, if conservative Christians like Steven Anderson or Kirk Cameron had their way women would be forbidden to have lives outside of the home and would be under the boot heel of their husbands day in and day out without a say in the matter. And just think, many Republican lawmakers agree with them.

It’s a scary thought that should spur women across the country to use their right to vote to put men like Cameron and Anderson in their place.

  1. I really think it depends on the personalities. Some women are capable of raising children and stay at home, some men are capable of raising children and stay at home. Some men get education, some men don’t, some women get education, some don’t. It shouldn’t be linked to gender.

  2. Completely revolting. It’s unfathomable that in 2019 there are still people who try to justify treating half of the human population with less respect and fewer rights than the other half. But I think that Christians who use the Bible to justify their refusal to obey Jesus’ greatest commandment…”Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” (it’s logistically impossible for any two people to simultaneously obey each other)…goes a long way towards illustrating how Christianity is very much a man-made institution whose main purpose is to suppress the people, to make them obedient and unquestioning.

It’s much easier to just quietly accept this than to speak out since most people stay quiet. Equality for all human beings shouldn’t be a radical idea, it should be a given…and if you need any explanation for why it’s crucial that we speak out against sex inequality please read/watch The Handmaid’s Tale.

    • Great points!! I totally agree! Crazy there are still men who think like this! God created us all equal! We are not lesser than either! Women have died to get us where we are today!

  3. I wonder if Cameron also believes that it’s okay to kill your wife for adultry, as well as homosexuals and unruly children. After all it does say that in the Bible too.

    • Did he say he believes that ?I doubt it and that was under different law than we are commanded to follow now ….you can’t just pick random parts out of the bible and use them out of context to justify an argument …..I mean you can…..but it doesn’t make it right or accurate.

  4. A good reason to never marry, is this ridiculousness right here. There is no man around to tell me to shut up anymore. What are you going to do now? Have the police spend time keeping me from talking or reading rather than chasing criminals. That is good stuff!

  5. How convenient. In this scenario, the men have rights, women have none. It’s good to be a man in this fundamentalist wet dream.

  6. Any clergy that has two coats is a crook as long as someone in his flock has none
. Think Jesus, Gandhi mandella mlk .. In America we love to follow liars and crooks
Im America if you want to tell them the ttuth you better be funny or they will kill you. Thwy still might even if you ARE fumny

  7. This article is gaslighting. I’ve heard Cameron speak several times and he doesn’t support abuse of any kind. His wife is a famous actress as well and is not submissive. Conservative Christians believe that the husband should lead his family. Yes, it is old fashioned, but this article is bashing and antagonistic. Sorry. Just my opinion.

  8. Cameron and his ilk can spout this self-serving garbage but no person with any self-respect should follow his edicts. A good marriage is a partnership. And if that partnership is 60-40 one day, it is likely to be 40-60 on another. The only time someone needs to "take charge" is when the home is literally burning down and quick action is required: then a leader will emerge naturally. Leadership qualities don't belong to any single gender.

I suspect Cameron (and those who share his misogynistic ideas) lacks confidence in himself so he seeks some outside "moral authority" to back up his power-play.

No person should ever blindly obey any other person. Cameron: you're to be pitied… and ignored.

  9. I think if u want someone to preach the truth you shouldn’t criticize them for doing so and dnt judge them if they are accurately translated or preaching Gods word ….I mean just because we dnt. like it doesn’t mean its innacurate I mean where do you want to lead…..I for one may not always follow Gods instruction …..but you certainly won’t hear me ? or argue it either..90% of society’s problem is that we have been so far removed from the real truth and so far conditioned that most people wouldn’t recognize the truth if it slapped them in the face …

  10. Wow. Is this what we do in this world now? We write articles that MAKE SHIT UP? Read the original article/interview. This is a quote straight from there: "Cameron stated that husband's are "to love their wives and not to tell their wives that they need to submit to them"". Pretty much the exact opposite of what is written in this garbage. Don't let the media think for you. Think for yourselves!

  11. This article is so misleading, almost as if that is the sole purpose of it. Read the interview for yourself, as this shows exactly why hearsay isn't excepted in court.
