For His Loss To Hillary, Trump Will Get Proper Blame But The Republican Party Is Dying

    Progressives for Immigration Reform

Those of us who have worked for years on real immigration reform were heartened when in June 2015, Donald Trump made the issue a major plank in what would eventually become his campaign. However, we were disappointed to learn that his main policy approach would be to build a wall on the Mexican border; a wall he grandiosely claimed Mexico would pay for.

While symbolically gratifying to many, a wall cannot prove to be nearly as effective as other proven methods. For instance, enforcing the precious rule of law was an effective method that made the employment of illegal immigrants extremely difficult.

Another method that utilizes advancements in information technology would be to require US employers to use E Verify. E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee’s Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification,) to Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration, and Department of State records to confirm that the employee is authorized to work in the United States. E-Verify is currently used by the Federal Government and many state governments as well. However, congress has failed to act on mandating its use by all employers. This is despite it having proven to be 98.9% effective in keeping illegal immigrants from gaining employment.

Apparently, both parties are hooked on open borders for cheap labor (mainly Republican) and more ethnic and religious aliens to enhance their majorities (mainly Democrats). Hence, the continuation of the status quo.

Clearly the news about Trump’s comments about women has derailed his campaign, but the debilitation of the Republican Party goes far beyond its present demographic cul de sac. In a February 14, 2013 op ed, I reminded my readers of how the GOP fell into the terminal trap of religious ideology which has now assured the party of not regaining the White House for the foreseeable future without significant rehabilitation.

Former Moderate Republican Urges Former Party To Wake Up To Their Religious Bigotry

It appears that my piece will now come painfully true for Republicans, who seem to have no clue as to why they are losing, but now have Trump, who could have been an effective messenger for winning had he not proved rhetorically so manic and misguided. It is little wonder both Democratic and Republican candidates have such high negatives.
