Despite the startling N.Y. Times and Washington Post reporting on how Trump tried to get the Justice Department’s assistance to overturn Biden’s election win, the Wall Street Journal only managed its story on Friday October 8th on page 4. And no mention in its editorial page or in its usual page one news summary on its left side.
A new report provides fresh details of how officials fought off Donald Trump’s efforts to press the Justice Department to pursue voter fraud claims. https://t.co/5ZpuIo3Qty

Now we learn that their lawyer tell those asked to testify at the House Commission of the January 6th insurrection not to cooperate. Read that here.
Are you getting the obfuscation of justice message yet? Read on.
The enormity of a President trying to pull off a coup stands unique in our history although Trump’s use of lies and illegal pressure reminded many of Hitler’s path to power in 1933.
And Trump’s power over the GOP remains as its leaders won’t call him out as they did with Nixon for lesser crimes, backing Nixon’s conviction so he fled to avoid conviction in the Senate.
In short, Trump’s future threat to our democracy remains keenly possible.
The midterms may tell us a lot, but meantime it is worth noting the lead Op Ed in the same Friday WSJ paper entitled “The Tyranny of the 21st Century Crowd” which argues that our idealistic young are the dangerous crowd upsetting our democracy rather than the vicious types who stormed the Capitol on January 6th! Talk about corrupting truth. Read this sophisticated deception and decide for yourself.
Modern technology has created untold vistas for the tyranny of the crowd, writes Robert D. Kaplan. The upshot of such crowd coercion is widespread self-censorship: the cornerstone of all forms of totalitarianism. https://t.co/l3Wy4QmLSm

Trump still controls the GOP and wants to run again for a second term in 2024.
2 years is an eternity in electoral politics but I would hope that scenario could be altered since I believe some (enough?) of the pro Trump fervor will have vanished if the GOP does not do well in the midterms.
But if the GOP does well our democracy’s future is in deep jeopardy. Nothing so serious like what now has happened in our democracy except in 1860 with the onset of the Civil War.
Hard to fathom how a twice impeached ex-President, still can be supported by his GOP voters who watched him try to stage a coup after he lost the 11/3/20 election, by claiming election fraud that has often been proven a lie by numerous supervised recounts!
As noted by all the WWII historians, Hitler got away with lying his way to power in 1933. Will Trump keep his non-governing GOP party faithful regardless of his felonious behavior?
“Peril” the blockbuster Trump killer book just published by Bob Woodward and Bob Costa will likely fail to sway those in his comatose GOP core, but Trump’s scary history of volatility and overall incompetence may by 2022 frighten many GOP voters, even those who are less than enthusiastic about Biden.
“Books in this genre like to make news, and this one doesn’t waste any time,” says our reviewer of Bob Woodward’s latest book, “Peril,” written with Robert Costa. https://t.co/yr0oq2BBG0

The GOP that caused Nixon to depart certainly isn’t the same GOP today. Have these Trumper leaders no shame? Or patriotism? Or morality?
Not evident in their overwhelming greed to take or keep power.
This just released Justice Dept report offers conclusive proof as to why Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked authorization of a bi-partisan January 6th Commission, saying it would prove nothing. Nothing but the truth, Senator!
