The April 26th editorial “GOP Leaders Remain shackled to Donald Trump” cites the two-faced statements of its leaders—most recently House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy whose lie got on tape—reflecting growing apprehension with Trump’s persistent Big Steal speeches.
One sentence in this otherwise prescient article requires a strong retort: “The mess the other party has made of the country in fifteen months is too extensive to risk the chance of further damage”.

I gasped in disbelief at such chutzpah!
Wasn’t it the Donald who has seriously undermined trust in our most important institutions with his outrageous labeling of any media criticism of his deceptions as “fake news” or his packing the Supreme Court with religious ideological zealots who may dismiss Stare decisis as irrelevant?
The Supreme Court’s likely killing of Roe/Casey will doubtlessly kill a lot of young women, as older, wealthier women will handle those unwanted fetuses better. Anti-abortion zealots claim they will take care of unwanted babies which is questionable to say the least.
Trump’s worst crime, though observed firsthand by all of us, was his blatant efforts to steal the oft confirmed honest election of Biden.
Worse, most of his party now either believes his lies or is confirming them to gain reelection.
The morality of the GOP should evoke the horror of enough swing voters in the midterms, but not according to many media projections.
If that occurs, you can read my recent Op Ed of the partial list of “goodies” the GOP promises! Read them again here:
"If you want to foster freedom to undermine trust in our most democratic institutions, then you will certainly want to vote Republican in the midterms this November."

Biden’s handling of the crises he inherited and which Trump’s pal Putin’s war on Ukraine has since initiated have gotten too little appreciation.
Inflation and consumer price increases are not Biden’s fault, but his popularity ratings reflect voter ignorance.
Naming what Biden has done for all Americans by enacting infrastructure spending (Yes, Republicans voted for it grudgingly) and other spending and governing actions is now being ignored by too many.
Furthermore, his effects to help all Americans with needed laws has been stonewalled by the non-governing GOP and Senator Manchin with his fossil fuel priorities which should cut the credibility with both.
The months ahead should provide even more urgent reasons to vote Democrat as we recover from Trumpism with its racism and its elitism to keep the wealth gap ever widening.
We now know what oil companies and political insiders knew for years—what caused our climate crisis—the oil companies lie about global warming when they paid for the research that experts had already proved fossil fuels were the reason!
Now with our democracy undermined by GOP lies and global warming going out of control, Americans are projected by the mainstream media to put the GOP back in control of Congress in the midterms!

Let’s hope the haters and the Trumpian sycophants stay shackled to Trump, even though the power of using him as a campaign issue may not be as powerful as hoped. Greater power with independents and women may come from Roe if Roe is killed.
Vote Democrat this Fall, or we are in terminal trouble. And another ghastly thought—do we have Biden vs DeSantis or some other Trump clone in 2024?
