The President’s prime time Thursday June 2nd impassioned call for gun control likely will end with little effective action. Moving words though; read here.
I stand with @POTUS in calling for immediate action. There are simply too many damn guns in America. There is no reason that it should be easier to buy a gun than it is to buy a car.
It’s time to put common-sense restrictions on these dangerous weapons.https://t.co/mK4eJcNijp

Enough laws already? Yes, cries the GOP! Read here the lies from voices such as Trump and Cruz from the just finished NRA convention:
Fact-Checking Trump and Cruz at the N.R.A. Convention
They made inaccurate or misleading claims about the efficacy of gun restrictions, gun ownership trends and school shootings.— Farnaz Fassihi (@farnazfassihi) May 28, 2022
Present day America, thanks to the still sustained undermining by Trump and his GOP Congress of our often traditionally quite effective institutions both governmental and private, which in the past often sought to make progress through cooperation, have mainly turned into road shows of specious opinion mongering which features endless name calling and little or no cooperation.
While bipartisan Congressional action did occur with the funding of Ukraine’s defense and in a significant infrastructure bill, urgently needed action on gun rights, abortion made national and permanent, voting rights and climate are being left bereft like open sores never to be healed by a do nothing closely divided Congress which costs billions with no apparent dividends except full employment for the big blocker office holders such as Cruz, McConnell or McCarthy and Manchin and Sinema on the Democrat side.
This condition, as is now becoming more and more evident to most Americans, means that any effective recourse on gun control, abortion and voting laws will go to the states where in states controlled by the GOP, their intransigence will make women and minorities the victims of growing tyranny.
Absent any national strict gun control laws, the massacres will continue.
The Obstructionists from Ted Cruz to most GOP elected officials may finally get enough independents angry enough to go to the polls at the midterms to break the impasse Trump created. Will the GOP’s failures perhaps cost the GOP a chance to win the Presidency in 2024??
NY is aware of the gun lobby power but will pass some gun laws, read here.
New York Democratic lawmakers have passed legislation to ban civilian purchase of bulletproof vests in the state.
First time vest purchasers will be guilty of a class A misdemeanor (1 year jail) while multiple offenders will get class E felony (4 years.) https://t.co/T3aorXNvlJ

If Canada can do it, why can’t we? Read here.
Our political leaders spend their time considering what minor “corrections” to make for gun safety while Canada follows the example of Australia and plans to ban and buy back assault weapons, and to freeze handgun sales. https://t.co/sRRysm1YrP

As the Washington Post reported, “More than 311,000 student have experienced gun violence at school since Columbine” in 1999.
This “states’ rights” GOP governance sadly does not have the ability or intention to address the climate and immigration issues so delay will take us and the world down frightening blind alleys.
