Will Golf Be Trump’s Achilles Heel?

No, I am not comparing Trump to Achilles, the mythological Greek hero, whose only weak spot was his heel, which when wounded caused his death in the Trojan War.

I only say that Trump so far has not yet been felled by any kind of physical weakness that brought Achilles down.

However, that Trump is a heel has already been proved. We can only hope for his comeuppance as his criminal record unravels.

Just as he treated women poorly–recall his comments about women just before his 2016 election–it is now ironic that perhaps women, not golf, will prove to be his Achilles heel.

Read here this account of the women who have stepped forward to lead the investigations into his coup management.

Of course, Trump just joins the male crowd of vicious Supreme Court ideologues who on June 24, 2022 killed Roe and unleashed unnecessary trauma on millions of women. However, the guiltiest of the 6 who voted to attack women was Justice Amy Coney Barrett, another Trump nominee who showed that her right-wing Catholicity cares little for our should be secular laws or women’s welfare.

These brave Republican women, who worked as insiders for Trump until after January 6th exposed his historic perfidy, took oaths to tell the truth about Trump and have since been seriously harassed by threats from Trump’s agents.

But back to LIV golf. The opening of the LIV golf tour in the US was at Trump’s golf course in Bedminster NJ just a few miles from NYC where it is now been proved that the Saudi Government had a role in assisting the 9/11 terrorists. His comments at the opening of this LIV tournament offered the ex-President another opportunity to show his contempt for America.

Read here the proof of the Saudi government’s assists of the 911 terrorist attackers.

Then as the PGA defecting golfers crowded around the Donald as he teed off in the event’s pro-am in this Saudi funded LIV 54-hole tournament on Friday July 29th at his Bedminster golf club, Trump had this to say about the Saudis and the LIV golfers who took the huge slug of Saudi money to play on this new tour.

Read Trump’s comments here.

Not surprisingly, after Trump instigated the January 6th Capitol invasion, the PGA wisely canceled plans to hold this year’s PGA championship at this same Trump Bedminster course and held its event in May at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.

The media reaction to this turn of events has been almost totally adverse. The golfing defectors may regret their decisions to join the LIV, but I don’t expect that their lack of judgment over their initial bad choice will allow many of them to avoid their 2nd booboo and give back their blood money and reapply for admission to the PGA! They really can’t be very smart. As Forrest Gump’s film mother, Sally Field, said, “Stupid is and stupid does.” Sad.

My son and I were particularly sad when Bubba Watson succumbed to the LIV money, as he and I were at the 2012 Masters when he won his first of two Masters, one of the 4 golf major events of the year. He also won 12 times on the PGA tour and has career earnings of $48 million. Did he need to take the alleged $40 million LIV offered?

As evidence piles up on Trump’s attempts to execute a coup that would have kept him in office for a 2nd term, this LIV golf fiasco will certainly not be a factor in his possible conviction.

However, it surely shows that birds of a feather flock together. The LIV players, predominantly mostly past their prime golfers, are at Bedminster kissing up to the treasonous Trump. I suspect they will likely not find many commercial sponsors willing to pay big money to have them put their logos on their golfers’ hats. What lame reasons can they offer for their forsaking the real golf world that gave them, like Bubba, their star stature.

Again, Trump has proved over and over how he cares only for his own welfare. These dissident pros have demonstrated the same egocentric disregard for the welfare of the other professional golfers who did not take money in exchange for their reputations or the millions of fans who so eagerly watched them. I for one won’t be watching them or wishing them well for their greedy perfidy! Yes, these men let their own Achilles heels bring them down.

And as life so often happens, the irony of Trump’s denouncement would be that women, the subject of his arrogant, feckless abuse will have brought him to justice.
