As a long time immigration reform activist, I am a Democrat who strongly favors legal immigration in needed numbers, but not enough to cut out our citizens with cheap foreign labor!
I have been greatly disappointed by those in my party who seem to sanction completely open borders!
This disregard for the rule of law has multiplied into the disgraceful phenomenon of sanctuary cities which protect illegal aliens from prosecution.
My party’s front runner Presidential candidates mostly agree with free alien access, and the right to get free government heath services.
The June 29 Wall Street Journal editorial entitled “Money for the Border, at last” notes the ironies of present policy failures and councils the urgent need to fix this “chaos”!
Please read the facts from the following story from The Wall Street Journal.
A sensible political culture would now move to fix the main cause of the border chaos: the perverse asylum incentives that are encouraging people to risk life and limb to enter the U.S. There’s little cause for optimism. https://t.co/sdvBqKRGM5

The disappointment is that the bill won’t fix the dysfunctional asylum process. Migrants who bring along children to claim asylum know they’ll be released into the U.S. to await their hearing. Most won’t show up. The sad truth is that children are brought along on dangerous trips as de facto entry visas.
Yet House progressives took even this noncontroversial bill hostage. The Senate negotiated a bipartisan compromise that passed 84-8. The House passed its own version along party lines this week that lacked money for the Defense Department, which has been helping at the border. It also included restrictions on how the Administration could use the money lest some be used for border enforcement.
The White House had threatened to veto the House bill, which also lacked 60 votes in the Senate. Speaker Nancy Pelosi thus found herself jammed between the progressives who weren’t willing to compromise and moderates who wanted to pass something before returning home for the Fourth of July. She chose political rationality and “reluctantly” brought up the Senate bill, which passed Thursday afternoon with more than 300 votes.
A sensible political culture would now move to fix the main cause of the border chaos: the perverse asylum incentives that are encouraging people to risk life and limb to enter the U.S. Given how Democrats were reluctant to address even the humanitarian problems, there’s little cause for optimism.
Very disappointing to most Americans who believe that the enforcement of our laws is fundamental to effective democratic governance is the constant use of the term “undocumented immigrants” by our main stream media instead of the accurate definition of “Illegal aliens”!
Even worse is the failure to apprehend these illegal aliens who are hiding out in sanctuary cities all over the US with the help of local authorities who fail to report them to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency. Illegal is illegal!
If changes in our laws are warranted, then they should be changed but with millions of illegal aliens hiding out in the US now the only change which needs to be made is better enforcement!
Jail time for a couple of big city mayors might get voter attention but with Democratic Presidential candidates seemingly ready if elected to give aliens all the fruits of US citizenship, no action would then seem likely!
