The ever-racist Rep. Steve King of Iowa has been infamous for his statements supporting white nationalist and white supremacist views and for his consistent promotion of white nationalist extremists. The continued bluntness of those statements—King isn’t one for nuance—cost him his House committee assignments, but King insists he will not only not be resigning, but will win re-election as well.
He intends to do this using the same tools he used to win election each of the last times: by being a terrible monster of a person in the particular ways that his Iowa Republican base seems to love. Speaking at the Westside Conservative Club in Urbandale, King held forth on why he opposed rape and incest exceptions in his own proposed anti-abortion laws. It’s because it’s “not the baby’s fault,” he said, suggesting that rape and incest were … just part of normal human existence?
“What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that? Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can’t say that I was not a part of a product of that.”
That’s Rep. Steve King, still in Congress, still telling stories about how secretly his fellow lawmakers love him to pieces, who refuses to resign and who still enjoys support among the Iowa Republican base because, well, you’ll have to ask them that, but I think we all have our suspicions.

Every time I encounter something Steve King has said or written, I am compelled to say: “What a loathsome little man you are.” But, no doubt the rest of you have your own pet Republican moron about whom you have said or thought the same thing.
