Yesterday was stark and almost seemed like a movie of fantasy such as the Manchurian Candidate. Fortunately the outcome of confirming Biden’s election was delayed but then confirmed by Congress many hours later.

The Trump inspired mob rushed the Capitol and entered the chambers of both houses while our elected representatives including the presiding Vice President of the United States in the Senate were hastily taken to secure places lest they be attacked by the mob.

One demonstrator was shot and killed, but the threat of curfew arrest was ignored after 6 PM. These Trump insurrectionists were treated differently than those who earlier peacefully marched for Black Lives Matter.

There are 14 dangerous days left in this demagogue’s Presidency and most Americans now wonder what price Trump will pay for his lying and attempt to remain in power.

Another real question: Is he insane?

What will our elected officials now do? It is likely too late for impeachment and conviction and for invoking the 25th Amendment.

The January 7th lead editorial in the Wall Street Journal entitled The Disgrace on Capitol Hill concluded by saying,

Mr. Biden will become President at noon on Jan. 20, and until then the police need to restore order with as much force as necessary. [I might ask why not before?] Republicans especially need to speak against trespass and violence. As for Mr. Trump, to steal some famous words deployed in 1940 against Neville Chamberlain: “In the name of God, go.”

The huge world press reaction to this event about the Shining City on The Hill was vivid and disheartening.

Why no impeachment and conviction? My earlier op ed suggested such impeachment was long overdue but this latest disrespect for our laws and his continuous urging a coup despite no proof of any fraud!

What happened yesterday made clear that Trump in his hour long speech yesterday the importuning of the mob was another attempt at a seditious coup. He failed to march as he promised (how many promises has be lied about?) with his mob; maybe he forgot his bible.

This was don’t forget a mob trying to take steps which were urged by the President of the United States amidst the ongoing pandemic which his indifferent handling has helped cause over 300,000 American deaths.

Trump stopped being President long ago and would have become a would be Mussolini or a mafia mob boss if he hadn’t been stopped, but say our system worked is not enough. And how about the disgraceful pardons? Will he now pardon himself?

What will our elected officials now do? I anxiously await justice of some legal kind. What can that be?
