When Do All People Prioritize Family Planning?

As we observe the effects worldwide of not only the current pandemic, we daily observe in our now instantaneous news coverage the breakdowns of decent life in many countries where such trauma had never occurred before!

Inevitably the source of the problem has been too many people! Planetary human numbers are now nearly up to 8 billion people worldwide from only 2 when I was born in 1931.

Multiple solutions are put forward, but the subject of excess humans seldom gets on the priority list.

More people equal more customers, more worshipers, more economically indigent workers in the burgeoning age of automation!

Preaching for fewer people has not proved able to keep human numbers from exploding and now we are at a planetary resource meltdown which must be addressed worldwide!

The powerful BBC film coming out this month featuring Sir David Attenborough on overpopulation’s effect on our future should finally trigger action but I doubt it will!

Our downward heading from here could be swift and horrific.

The ultimate family planning program will be, as it has been for so long, provided by war, famine, disease and death, but the diminution of the resources needed for even a largely diminished number of humans will not be adequate and the danger for more declines in the welfare of those remaining is heightened.

When the factor of global warming is added, one can hardly envision a route to recovery.

Special thanks for this likely outcome can be shared by the world’s religions, the fabulous expansion powers of our commercial enterprises and the indifference of all of us to the rise of the scourge of too many people.

So who are those we consider “too many?”

And that of course is why any sane solution is likely impossible. Our record of racist behavior which we now confront in the USA has echoed before throughout human history.

Attenborough’s tentative optimism is laudable and indeed could cause alterations in human behavior which would indeed be remarkable.

I won’t be around to learn the outcome but I recognize I have lived in a relatively safe place in history despite the world’s entry in my lifetime into a time when nuclear war is entirely possible but as yet only been tried once!

Move to Mars? Who else is out there in vastness of space?

The ultimate faith by humans as we see the decline of many religions will be having the will to go on positively by fostering smart, secular, steps like being less racist, less religiously doctrinaire, less violent, less greedy?

Any takers?
