GOP’s Trump Legacy Is Its COVID-19 Indifference Which Is Now Exploding!

President Biden was shown on CNN early on August 4th saying that a third of all new COVID cases are in Florida and Texas. He stated that those Governors have not been aggressively promoting vaccination. He urged universities and other institutions to mandate vaccinations. He said to those governors “if you don’t want to help, just get out of the way.”

Likewise, it seems that this vaccine problem would be very quickly abated if all businesses followed the action of Tyson Foods in requiring its employees to be vaccinated.

I was astonished to read that some of Tyson’s union leaders objected, saying FDA had not given full approval to these vaccines, only emergency okay. Full approval by FDA is anticipated this Fall. That we are in an emergency seems to have escaped the union leader’s notice. You can read that article about Tyson management’s decision here.

All businesses as well as all institutions should be mandating that all their employees get vaccinated or stay home and be unpaid. Does that sound too harsh? Not after 6000,000 deaths.

If Trump had followed the advice of his top level scientists such as Dr Fauci from the time the seriousness of the pandemic became evident, countless lives would have beem saved.

Instead, Trump ignored the facts and even began proposing use of outlandish drug alternatives, which fortunately his medical team was able to block.

Perhaps worst of all, as the new surge of the Delta variant is now proving, his personal behavior in not wearing a mask and seeming to dismiss the lethality of COVID, got his base off base in estimating its danger. And when his feckless exposure Trump got COVID just before the November 3rd Presidential election, heroic medical efforts including use of special drugs not available to others, saved his life.

Did that cause him to change his public scepticism about the virus? No, sadly, which has undoubtedly allowed Delta to surge again right now since it is his base of core voters who are the vast majority of those now infected.

The GOP governors in Texas and Florida Biden cited are really unindicted Trump conspirators.

We can only hope enough Americans from both parties understand the immensity of the GOP leadership’s malfeasance as they go to vote in the midterms and in the Presidential election in 2024.

CNN’s Sanjay Gupta gives us all advice about the urgency of getting vaccinated which you can read about here.

His main point: “Think you don’t want to get vaccinated? Think again.”
