Liz Chaney’s father, Dick Chaney, and war hawk Don Rumsfeld twenty years ago recommended this Afghanistan police action which is now rapidly unraveling.
Just another example of how Industrial Military Complex President Eisenhower warned us about got Congress to ignore its responsibility to approve US involvement in foreign wars. Congress hasn’t so authorized wars since FDR got approval after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor at the onset of WWII.
You can hear Ike’s warning here.

Why no Congressional approval? Certainly partly because it was popular to our voting citizens to have the good jobs that big spending brought with big defense outlays. And hawks like Rumsfeld and some in the military certainly didn’t mind testing their equipment.
Similar feckless treatment was accorded immigration as importing cheap labor pleased business just like bringing slaves from Africa to pick cotton was okay until the Civil War.
A version of the Jim Crow racism that followed Reconstruction in 1877 basically still prevails as the GOP tries to restrict minority voting.
Now those fearful of losing a white majority can see that as a certainty. It’s coming and we better embrace it or we could face needless turmoil to our fragile democracy.
You can read the latest numbers here.
The demographic data in the census will be used to redraw political maps across an increasingly diverse country. The numbers could help determine control of the U.S. House in the 2022 elections and provide an electoral edge for the next decade. https://t.co/2cGYrJ0Uvx

The South Vietnam war losers and now those Afghanistan US helpers and their families needed then and now need to be given safe landings in the USA.
To repeat, this shift in a white majority to one which should embrace us all has led our democracy to a potential fracture point.
To survive the racism of Trump and his supporters who are coating false patriotism as freedom to hide their grasping for more power and the chance to continue policies which can’t be sustainable, citizens must work to ensure that these disgraced extremists are not taking either House and Congress at the midterms.
We have already heard and doubtless we will hear more from some military figures moaning about our leaving Afghanistan, but Biden got it politically and morally correct.
Biden administration officials have urged Afghanistan’s collapsing security forces to demonstrate “leadership” and “will” to defend the capital, Kabul, underscoring that the U.S. has no intention of rescuing them as the Taliban storm across the country. https://t.co/v5QXcRnbud

Can these Industrial Military Complex folks sell us to fear another attack like 9/11? Wonder why after all our military forays into other people’s country, we should be surprised that animosities like 9/11 were engendered?
I suspect the threat of being attacked here in the US by the Taliban from Afghanistan is very slight. Our continuing to use the weapons from the Industrial Military Complex as we have done so often since Ike’s warning proves his prescience and our stupidity.
Ike understood that war is not a final solution unless some crazy nation resorts to using nuclear weapons. We are prepared to defend, but should not be in the offensive.
Furthermore, the good news is we got a lot of bright hardworking Vietnamese refugees. By taking in those Afghans who helped us over these twenty fruitless years in our ill fated attempt to bring democracy there, we are getting trained English speaking refugees, who are certainly deserving of our reciprocation.
The immigration crisis so long ignored, like the growth of the world’s population which has exploded four times in my 90 year lifetime to almost 8 billion, has now forced massive arrests at our border with Mexico.
Offering all of our citizens here now the best educational opportunities possible becomes the key to our future, as we realize that continuing racism could destroy the greatest democratic experiment in human history!
No college or junior college students should emerge as some are now with large debt. Compare the present total student debt now with other debts—such as our military budget—and we could easily wipe those onerous student burdens away to the benefit of all.
Yes, there are many Americans who don’t believe COVID vaccines are to be taken. For whatever reasons they state, Dr Anthony Fauci, whose credible scientific advice has for decades proved correct, noted on 8/12 on CNN that 93 million Americans have not gotten shots. That is not exercising freedom but rather proving the unvaccinated do not deserve the cherished citizenship they enjoy. These folks are like walking plagues, selfishly endangering others to follow the false advice of those seeking political power from the votes of the stupid.
The future? Always uncertain, but positive only if we exercise fairness over fraudulence, truth over lies.
