If asked before our democratic system elected Donald Trump, a majority of Americans would undoubtedly have said we do better than China.
We can hope that would prevail today, although Chi obviously believes his dictatorship works better. For example, you can read how China handles COVID here.
In China's new 5,000 room foreign-quarantine facility, people will live in isolation for at least two weeks with their food brought to them by robots https://t.co/Q4xqEzpgIX

In this article, its repressive approach, of which it is proud, but “Mr Xi (bathed in glory, he surely hopes, for his victory over covid) will use as a launching pad for five more years, at least, in office”, even though its vaccines are inferior to ours.
My “woke” relative in my yesterday’s piece cited a few of our current issues which I repeat here:
Our nation’s situation and the slow chipping away & destruction of our democracy have become so disheartening, so negative, so frightening that many former politically savvy individuals are so turned off right now, so dismayed & discouraged that choosing not to watch the news in order to maintain one’s sanity has become the day-by-day reality.
It all seems so overwhelmingly apocalyptic.
Yes, we can protest, write, support political candidates whose views reflect ours–but once elected look at what they and we face in terms of governing.

Our now one-party governing Democrats can’t even get its own members to pass desperately needed legislation because the vision horizons of a few of its members don’t go beyond their personal political fortunes. Their intransigence will cost lives and possibly lead to loss of Congress in the midterms.
Is the only way to manage a feckless or too numerous population the way Chi does it?
China’s population numbers have tripled since WWII to 1.4 billion.
Our numbers have gone from 130 million to 340 million since my birth in 1931.
Perhaps most disturbing is the fact that a sitting President tried to stage a coup to stop his elected successor from taking office and not yet going to jail for his felonious crime and this may be the best current example of how our democracy has failed.
Another outrageous example of democracy’s failure is Trump’s and McConnell’s (remember the latter’s blocking of the Obama appointment of Merrick Garland to the US Supreme Court?) destruction of the Supreme Court, as the 5 to 4 majority likely moves toward killing Roe.
This is the right move by @TheJusticeDept—the Supreme Court should protect abortion access based on years of legal precedent. But that is not all. Congress must #PassWHPA and codify Roe v. Wade in federal law to stop these attacks on abortion access.https://t.co/H6V0ruz99X

As Wikipedia tells us, “Abortion in China is legal and is a government service available on request for women. Although this does not, in theory, apply to sex-selective abortion, it remains the basis for some women’s requests. In addition to virtually universal access to contraception, abortion was a common way for China to contain its population in accordance with its now-defunct one-child policy, which was removed in 2015 in favor of a two-child policy, which in turn was replaced in 2021 by a three-child policy.”
Read more about China’s abortion policy here.
Then our failure to fix immigration! New immigrants for our nation have always been badly needed. Just look at the mixed foreign ethnicity of our Nobelists and other innovators, but the fixing has failed due to politically motivated by business (cheap labor), religions (more of one faith over another) and the obvious draw of foreigners here because of our success SO FAR as a nation (remember we are the “land of opportunity”), we keep a laissez-faire open border policy which makes excess numbers certain to exceed our needs.
In summary our next era as a democratic nation is in serious doubt and only with substantial courage and generosity of spirit will we overcome the venal Trump’s continuing cancerous influence.
