To me some of the most telling quotes about Trump’s January 6th behavior came from Colin Powell in an interview with Bob Woodward. You can read a brief piece here.

Trump’s disgraceful moral character while amply documented before January 6th was sufficient to earn him two impeachments, which should have resulted in his conviction, the first President in US history to be thrown out of office as Powell suggested he should have been. It would have happened, but for the GOP sycophants who now have helped Trump destroy the credibility of the GOP, and now go forward to trying to enfeeble or dominate our democracy.
An article by Jackie Calmes in the LA Times succinctly and sharply repeats the obvious division between the morality of Colin Powell and his Republican successors. Read it here.
“Two years later, after the intelligence indeed proved wrong and U.S. troops were dying in a quagmire, Powell acknowledged his 'painful' role in starting a war under false pretenses,” writes @jackiekcalmes for @latimesopinion. https://t.co/i1Z03URc0w

The irony of Trump’s felonious attempts to hide behind our precious rule of law, as has been dramatically exhibited with his multiple attempts to elude the House of Representatives January 6th Commission’s probe into the facts of what happened.
The indictment of Steve Bannon is positive step, but the road to proving Trump’s guilt is not yet clear.

My main point remains that the heart of keeping our democracy viable rests with the integrity of its elected officials. Absent that quality as the predominant influence in the conduct of our affairs, we will be soon lost as a functioning democracy, but like countless other countries bragging about being democratic but are headed by DeFacto corrupt dictatorships.
Not indicting and convicting this former Felon-in-Chief could insure such a path for our democracy.
