The endless abortion arguments between pro-life and even those of us who so work for choice often to fail to recognize choice as a major facilitator for helping the long march women have had to gain equity with men.
Despite many examples of progress toward equity in the US and elsewhere the bottom line in saving habitable life our planet rests on attaining such equity ASAP.
In my recent Op Ed I call women’s equity “a not-so-secret weapon” in giving adopting societies great advantage.
Why? Not just avoiding unintended pregnancies (over 50% in the US), which can interrupt education and every other direction in which women may choose to go.
Yes, certainly the appeal of motherhood is for some a primary motivation. However, often not understanding by young women of the long-term consequences of family life can inhibit them in reaching other careers.
Meanwhile, those called freedom loving GOP repressionists offer more possible impediments to women.
Abortion rights are human rights.
It's time to end the filibuster and pass the Women's Health Protection Act.https://t.co/XT4ermidLs

In a new book by my son Don Jr which you now access on Amazon for 99 cents is entitled “Women Deserve Free Contraception”. It presents a power case for universal contraception. I suggest you read Chapter 3: “Women Become Equal to men in the Year 2227”. Its advice if widely taken would hasten that date and gradually, non-coercively bring equity to women worldwide and a planet that could sustain its reduced human numbers indefinitely.

My son has two daughters both nearly 40 and, in their choice, past childbearing. One has 3 daughters, the other 2. Their father from their earliest days encouraged them to seek equity in their lives and we know they will offer the same advice for their 5 daughters.
The GOP had better get the implications of that powerful trend for equity, but I doubt they will in the Trump dominated short term.
The good news is that the anti-choice repressionists will certainly help accelerate what is already well advanced here in most civilized nations, the recognition that women’s health and equity is burgeoning! As my readers know, I regard as so dangerous the surfeit of humans now 8 billion enroute to maybe 11 billion by 2100. As it is obvious, excess human numbers ensuring potential disastrous effects on our climate and environment, which will assuredly if unchecked make our tiny orb uninhabitable.
The loss of freedom over abortion choice will symbolize the wane of secular rights guaranteed by our founding documents and solidified by the Roe vs Wade decision on January 23, 1973.
The nuances of the complex abortion issue were broadly and fairly reported in the attached article from the Guttmacher Institute:
Read it here.
As more abortion restrictions advance through state legislatures each week, 2022 is shaping up to be devastating for abortion rights and access in the US. #BansOffOurBodies #StopTheBans https://t.co/APyramOMpR pic.twitter.com/7bEyiQho6B

This is not a time for such a grievous error in a world throbbing with potential problems. Adding an unnecessary attack on women by killing Roe will be particularly immoral and imprudent.
The Economist tells us why. Read about it here.
