With November only a few months away, Americans need to ponder the shambles that Trump’s Presidency continues to impose on our lives.

Further, the legacy of his time in the White House is going to be with us for decades.

As the House January 6th Committee’s hearings possibly nears their end, the public should have no doubt about Trump’s attempted coup to stay in power. Sadly, for our two party system, his reign has had the effect of destroying his GOP’s reputation as honorable upholders of our Constitution and its Bill of Rights.

The GOP impropriety list is long and well reported already. However, we wonder if Trump’s core fantasy voters will get the fact that Trump keeps lying to them at his rallies about “the Big Steal”?

One Capitol invader, Stephen Ayres, who testified on 7/12 to the House January 6th Committee, told of how he believed Trump’s lies, went to DC and joined the insurrection, then left the Capitol immediately when Trump called off the mob at 4:10 pm after doing nothing for hours to stop the insurrection. Not associated with the Proud Boys or any extremist group, Ayres’ life was shattered by his DC trip. After testifying, Ayres apologized to the Capitol policemen in the Hearing’s audience!

Evidence our democracy is still in peril is the prospect Trump will likely run again. Read here.

A few quotes from this extensive Washington Post 7/14/22 article might incite your apprehension.

For nearly a year, a kitchen cabinet of Donald Trump confidants have told the former president not to announce his 2024 comeback candidacy before the midterms, arguing that he could be a drag on 2022 candidates and would be blamed if Republicans underperformed.

But Trump has continued to regularly push for an early announcement in private meetings, as potential 2024 rivals become more aggressive amid signs of weakening support among his base. Now an increasing number of allies are urging him to follow his instincts as a way to shore up his standing in the party and drive turnout to help the GOP take over the House and Senate next year.

The former president is now eyeing a September announcement, according to two Trump advisers, who like some others interviewed for this article spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe private conversations. One confidant put the odds at “70-30 he announces before the midterms.” And others said he may still decide to announce sooner than September.”

Will some elected GOP Congressmen finally see their shallow, treasonous fealty to Trump as not a winning strategy?

How about those MAGA rally folks who bought Trump’s lies?

Ayres lost his job, his house, his reputation and imperiled his family’s future. Those injured Capitol policemen present at the Hearings showed their generous and brave stature by accepting Ayres’ apology, perhaps a starting point for those who have bought Trump’s proven lies!

Assuming our democracy can survive his influence, Trump’s most pernicious legacy is of course his appointment of 3 Supreme Court Justices willing to assassinate basic humanitarian rights to kowtow to their ultra-right wing Catholic religious beliefs on women’s right to safe legal abortions.

In the same past term these Justices also allowed open gun carrying, and exacerbated the difficulty of dealing with climate change!

If Justice Clarence Thomas’ stated future US citizen targets are advanced by the present 6 to 3 Roe majority, we can expect in their next term attacks on gay marriage and contraception, the latter attacks already underway in states where GOP legislators are in control.

Perhaps most basic to this horrific Trump legacy is the GOP attacks to steal voting rights by Jim Crow type voting restrictions beamed at our poorest citizens.

One would think those current MAGA rally audiences would finally say “Hey, Trump’s actually talking about lying to me!!!”

Next week’s House January 6th hearing on July 21st at 8 pm could change Trump’s future, if the previous 7 sessions haven’t already.
