If one read the history of how Hitler rose to ultimate power in Germany in 1933, his themes of argument now remind us of Trump’s record in attempting to a frightening extent in succeeding in undermining public confidence in our Federal Government, our media, and other critical and respected institutions by his attacks, including his language causing violence or political intimidation of anyone who opposed his march toward authoritarianism.
Read the story here.
"And the existing elites were going to manipulate him and pass the legislation that they needed. And Germany would be saved— at least saved from communism, from a Marxist dictatorship. And it's one of the great mistakes in all of history." https://t.co/dJ637etjTR

That march to his coup to stop Biden taking office was symbolized on January 6th when after months of surreptitious organizing Trump called these angry citizens to whom he knowingly lied about the election results to come protest in Washington on the day the Electoral College votes were being counted or “you won’t have a country anymore!” to implement of many elected GOP members who in tacit cowardice didn’t call Trump’s outrageous behavior.
In his usual manner just as he got Kevin McCarthy and many House members to kiss his ring to ensure his support for their reelection, he put heavy pressure on his toady Vice President Mike Pence to back his fraud claims and agree that the Electoral votes Pence was only presiding over counting, should be sent back to the states for recalculation!
Pence gets credit for stopping the continuation of the coup attempt which caused Trump’s second impeachment—a unique event in our 246-year history since the Declaration of Independence in 1776—while the spineless GOP Senators refused to join to indict and throw Trump out of office, allegedly since he was nearing the end of his Presidency.
I repeat this factual history only to make clear the parallels with Hitler’s rise to power which only occurred after Hitler’s lying and his troopers’ violent attacks on any who tried to stop him and with the misguided acquiescence of the powerful right wing leaders of that time who thought could control him.
Violence as precipitated on January 6th will doubtless surface in the months ahead. Two recent examples include the attack on Salman Rushdie and the FBI office on Cincinnati, the latter certainly instigated by Trump’s rhetoric after the FBI search at Mar Lago.
A law enforcement standoff with a man who attempted to breach the FBI’s field office in Cincinnati on Thursday has ended with the suspect dead, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Maureen Dowd’s August 13th opinion piece reports: “Trump Sics the G.O.P. on the F.B.I.”
“This egomaniac is desecrating our democracy, tearing the country apart for his own benefit. Fund-raising emails ranting about the F.B.I. search of Mar-a-Lago should be headlined: ‘Let’s Ruin America So We Can Make Some Money Off It! ‘“https://t.co/dHxYVcaVQH

Many observers see Trump’s failed coup as a preamble to his next effort should he fail in his next attempt to be elected President in 2024.
What frightens many commentators such as NY Times columnist David Brooks on Judy Woodruff’s WETA’s Friday August 11th program is the real possibility Trump could win election in 2024 or if he is convicted of his felonies causing his supporters to make vast public disruption that could greatly threaten our democracy.
If we can’t indict Trump for his felonies our democracy is on its way to the same kind of authoritarianism that led Hitler to his control in 1933 in Germany.
Such a “victory” would insure the on governing GOP will continue its racist attempts to restrict minority voting. Trump’s Supreme Court packing continues this assault on women, the climate crisis, gun control and failure to maintain the Constitutional rule to keep church and state separate.
The astonishing indifference of so many citizens to proven evidence of his felonies brings us to a unique place in US history not experienced since the Civil War.
Despite what Biden has done to amend public confidence in our institutions that the disastrous Trump Presidency has caused, the immoral failure of many in the disgraced GOP remains in a strong position to retake both Houses of Congress in the midterms and further the future of this unfit felon for his soon likely to be announced run for a second term.
We’ve heard so much gloom and doom about the midterms, about how democrats are going to get wiped out. It does not have to be that way. (Thread)https://t.co/bvFvLcYVaz

Democrats in losing Congress in November would mean Trump’s march his goal of control of all three branches of our Federal Government only needs his victory in 2024.
Is it likely no further damning evidence on Trump will surface before the midterms? Certainly, the adequacy of what we now know should be persuasive in alerting even the most uninterested citizen of his unfitness for any public office again. Regardless, how could any sane or non-corrupt citizen or public official not find Trump’s record a reason to vote against his takeover??
After all it was lying got him to his present position of now owning the GOP.
