Church and State

The $1.6 billion stash of hidden dark money controlled by right wing Catholic Leonard Leo will doubtless be used to further slam the door on women’s reproductive rights, particularly safe abortions.
The Roman Catholic Church is spending millions to stem, complicate and if possible, eliminate reproductive rights for women. Is Leo money involved?

However, Leo and the RCC is far from alone as Mike Pence just made clear in his call for abortions to be limited to 15 weeks.
Read here his maniacal comments.
Pence says he believes implementing a national abortion ban and continuing the conservative fight to restrict bodily autonomy for women “is profoundly more important than any short-term politics.” https://t.co/ziM9umZNYg

The piece begins, “Former Vice President Mike Pence says he believes implementing a national abortion ban and continuing the conservative fight to restrict bodily autonomy for women “is profoundly more important than any short-term politics.”
Undoubtedly Pence, a truly long shot to become the 2024 Presidential candidate, figures he might as well join the hard-core extremist GOP majority. As you recall, he was about to face defeat in his home state of Indiana when Trump threw him a political life line as his VP nominee.
Another Trump toady, SC Senator Lindsay Graham, wants a national ban on abortion after 15 weeks, a position I find completely unacceptable as I will explain again below.
Read about his hypocritical position here.
Lindsey Graham proves once again that everything Republicans say about abortion is bullshit. https://t.co/4IGMTKcvW7

Now this charging herd of zealots join with the Supreme Court, which is ruined morally and culturally for years, who apparently think anything goes with a public health decision now forced into law with some extremists’ clan’s beliefs which apply to all contraception, LBGTQ rights and perhaps other established freedoms as yet unarticulated.
My position on choice includes being vehemently against any time limit except as set by women and their MDs!
Let me repeat what I argue with anyone who believes neither governments nor religions has the right to interfere in such a private, medical, and emotional decision!
As a prochoice advocate before and after Roe, I was a founding board member of several NGOs which provided abortion, also before and after Roe.
I was overjoyed with the January 1973 Roe decision and am greatly enraged by the religious majority who made the 6/24 Dobbs decision nearly 50 years later.
But both decisions underlined the inadequacy of Roe and the immorality of Dobbs, the latter ignoring the Constitutional tenet of keeping matters of church and state separate.
Long before Roe my sister-in-law carried a much-wanted baby to birth, a pregnancy which should have been ended, even if nearly at the end of pregnancy. The baby survived for several months on life support while my sister-in-law, an early diabetic, made heart rending daily visits to the hospital.
In our republic which should be governed by secular law, not religious preference. Yes, I repeat again and again that the only decisions on abortions should be made between pregnant women and their doctors. So-called late abortions if medically advisable are not matters for government intervention!
Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus’ 9/12/22 column entitled “What Chief Justice Roberts Misses” fails to adequately emphasize how the new Supreme Court Dobbs decision needs fully articulated as religious attacks on our Constitution! Marcus, one of my favorite columnists, doesn’t make 2 key points strongly enough.
The Chief Justice doesn’t get it. The fault isn’t with the public that doubts the court’s legitimacy. It’s with the court acting in illegitimate ways https://t.co/N9oZ4MeWEm

First, simply put the zealot Catholic Court majority has inflicted their destructive religious beliefs on US women with a public health issue which in terms of easy access was not fully solved even with Roe. Now mayhem and chaos prevail, as states go pro and con on choice.
Second, this totally religious decision destroys now and potentially for a long time in the future the Constitutional principle of separation of church and state.
Only Congress can now fix the tyrannical overreach with legislation restoring the first Constitutional right which was provided with Roe and withdrawn with Dobbs!
