As I have written before, GOP election deniers are everywhere. The horrendous danger as these people get nominated is the prospect of their election to polling posts which will allow them the power to steal elections! Read this NY Times headline: “In 4 Swing States, G.O.P. Election Deniers Could Oversee Voting”. And the full scary story here.
New: Republicans who have disputed the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election and who pose a threat to subvert the next one are on a path toward winning decisive control over how elections are run in AZ, MI, PA + more

Trump’s fraud claims will continue to resonate with his base. His goal is the 2024 Presidential race. How his legal troubles may influence that goal of course are unknown at this time, but voters who care about democracy should keep alert, even as we hear Representative Liz Cheney say if Trump is the 2024 nominee, she will no longer be a Republican.
The issues for the midterms between the parties are clearly drawn: The Democrats will emphasize abortion and saving our democracy from authoritarianism.
The GOP is pushing immigration and inflation and lately crime. Immigration is one of those issues the GOP has chosen to claim is the Democrats fault, but of course neither party has agreed to achieve a legislative compromise for years.
Inflation is certainly a debatable issue but is a phenomenon which is worldwide and at least partly attributable to Putin’s war in Ukraine.
Minority House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the steadfast Trump ally, gave listeners his plan is the GOP wins Congress in the midterms. His remarks were more of a wish list in which he offered no plan for implementation.
CBS’ September 23rd story tells us,
McCarthy, who is poised to seize the speaker’s gavel if Republicans win control of the House in the fall, hopes to replicate the strategy former Speaker Newt Gingrich used to spark voter enthusiasm and sweep House control in a 1994 landslide.
“I want to win the majority so we can have a new plan and implement it,” McCarthy told CBS News congressional correspondent Nikole Killion, deferring a question about his political future. “They’ll make that decision after the election and whichever way it goes from that standpoint; it’ll happen.”
Recall Gingrich was the Speaker which Julian Zelizer’s July 2020 book entitled “Burning Down The House” tells of Gingrich’s “launching an enduring era of brutal partisan politics”. Zelizer’s sobering message has been repeated by many other reporters.

Can’t imagine that most Americans having rejected Gingrich once and gotten Trump as his successor, will be anxious to enlarge the divisiveness now extant in our democracy.
McCarthy goes on in this speech, intended to define GOP intentions, to say “’So, if you’re like everybody else we hear, whether you can afford it, whether you feel safe, the challenge of your children getting lost behind, or a government that’s run amuck,’ McCarthy told his enthusiastic audience. ‘Who has a plan to change that course? We do. The Democrats have no plan for the problem they created.'”
No specific plan was offered just a lot of what McCarthy would like to see happen.

Inflation will abate but making a Jim Crow style reversion to our voting laws would be a disaster. I suspect that the Dobbs decision will react more strongly than pundits have predicted. Hell, hath no fury like a woman scorned!!!
