Many of us recall the phrase “the birds and the bees” which is like the stork bringing babies which provides some parents with a means of answering the questions children ask their parents, “Where do children come from?”
We know that some modern parents may tell their children exactly how procreation happens, but like those against safe, legal abortions, many people not only obfuscate the mutuality of why, but the necessity of having the ability to choose to have children or not.
The uncertainty of how to best tell children about how life is created is analogous to the same lethal evasion by religious extremists such as what those zealot Supreme Court justices argued and succeeded in getting: The right to invade the private domain of women and their pregnancy helpers, usually MDs but with training paramedics who frequently can handle abortion services better than MDs.
One of those frequent overstepping articles on abortion rights entitled “The Political Case for Federal Abortion Limits” in the October 7th Wall Street Journal by its author, President of the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, states “Only 10% of voters support the Democrats’ extreme position, while 72% back restrictions at 15 weeks”.
I am far from certain about the correctness of her facts and all her many other conclusions which you can read here, but this quote illustrates how far from reality about abortion rights too many Americans are.
For over 50 years (long before Roe was decided on January 22, 1973) I have been involved with helping many organizations provide safe inexpensive legal abortion services here and around the world.
By taking a private medical decision into a right-wing religious rabbit hole with Dobbs, we have attacked women and allowed these religious authoritarians to use this issue as a pathway to political power based on inhumane, medically dangerous restrictions.
Let me make clear. The Roe decision was not perfect and allowed the erroneous belief that government, Federal and State, had rights to invade the personal privacy and the civil rights of half our citizens.
How dare any government agency be allowed to rule in basic secular civil rights in a nation founded on protecting such rights??
Extremism against women’s rights has long been dominant and abortion restrictions are tyranny’s ultimate example.
Where should we be on abortion law. A fifteen week limit on abortion is hugely dangerous as is any legislatively imposed limit on a solely medical decision.
On September 22nd, I wrote a article entitled “No Common Ground Likely On Government Imposed Abortion Laws. But All Such Laws Need To Be Lifted!!” from which I quote here.
Let’s finally get real about abortion and how it fits into medical services.
When you need any medical assistance do you get in your car or take a plane to another state where knee replacement surgery or cancer treatment is needed?
Maybe but only if an MD specialist is required, not permission from some medically unqualified government bureaucrat or a judicial ruling based religious belief.
The madness of such specificity on abortion in a curious way came 50 years ago with the Roe decision which was welcomed by women and those of us who had seen the agony of back-alley deaths, but the Roe decision set in motion the idea such an evil as giving women safe options when they and their MDs decided abortion needed banning altogether or at least some limitations.
Why? Ridiculous.
Okay, Justice Blackman and that Supreme Court listened to the arguments of 26-year-old lawyer Sarah Weddington whose arguments and a distinguished group of officials from all mainstream religions can be seen on a powerful film here.
In 1990 this powerful film entitled “Whose Choice?” was produced, advocating the need to keep abortion services safe, early and widely available for all American women.

The rest of the discussions about abortion is religious BS perpetuated by the fantasies of those who have personal opinions which they are insisting apply to all of us.
Careful licensing as we train doctors is now the rule but frequently abortion training is not even included, again because of this invidious invasion of a woman’s personal privacy and the right to decide if she wants safe service just as we might seek special help if diagnosed with cancer or need any medical service.
Half the annual pregnancies in the US are unintended.
World Population has grown 4 times in my 91 years to 8 billion from 2 billion when I was born and human numbers keeps going up every year so the impact of humans on climate, environment or any other ad erase issue you can name has experts such as UN Secretary General Ban ki-moon of South Korea whose statement mentioned human causes to our environment crises, but no plan for reduction of human numbers which urgently need to be reduced.
In fact, the 8th paragraph the article’s writer mentions “Human-caused climate change” but then as the UN Secretary General failed to mention no action plan to curb population growth but comments on saving human lives as we kill off more flora and fauna than can be renewed yearly!
You can read the entire article here.

Dobbs reminded us again of the continuing intrusion of religious dictatorships into what should be a commonplace secular procedure, usually far safer than carrying a pregnancy to delivery. A well-funded Leonard Leo has made huge progress.
Talking to youngsters in our electronically sophisticated world about the birds and the bees is increasingly irrelevant but talking to adults about the madness of anti-choice laws is more urgently needed than ever in world history.
