American Elites Get Richer and Ignore Human Numbers Growth!

As the stock market is belching slightly lower after years of a significant run up, the gap between the few like Elon Musk and benevolent capitalists such as Billionaires Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett grows wider and wider.

Still the limits of earth’s capacity for resource beneficence are exceeded yearly while inadequate efforts to stem temperature rises triggers aberrant weather.

The few voices calling for a lessening of human numbers are ignored despite the fantasy of believing we can maintain endless growth on our finite planet.

Evidence appears daily around the world as humans suffer multiple traumatic events, which are related to human invasive assaults on our environment.

There are hopes that the election of Lula da Silva may slow destruction of the Brazilian rain forest. However, environmental damage there and around the earth has already been extensive!

But playing the blame game continues from columnists left and right.

President Biden now gets blamed for everything including excess inflation, immigration, and crime which all stem from unsustainable human growth.

Then the effect on Putin’s war on gas prices gives Biden another black eye.

Peggy Noonan’s 10/29/22 WSJ Op Ed’s first paragraph is but one of many blame game examples as we close on November 8th.

She says,

I think we all have a sense of where this (she is talking about crime in NYC) is going.

People are alarmed at the cost of things. They are afraid of crime. They don’t like what they see of the schools. These are personal, intimate issues. They have to do with how you live your life. You don’t want to be the parents who can’t buy the kids what they need, and the other kids make fun of them. You don’t want the emotional mood of your house dictated by your fear that you can’t make rent. You don’t want to be hit on the head on the way to the store—what would you do if you were carjacked, what’s the right way to act? —and you don’t want to be constantly doubting your kids are safe. And the schools are swept by weirdness of all kinds. Just teach them math and history so they can go on and get a good job and not always be afraid of the rent.

Read it all here:

Millions are now being spent on flogging each other but ignoring where we are now environmentally and are headed sooner than people think!

The time is near at hand for paying the price for letting the now sharply increased world population affect everything on earth by doubling four times since 1930 from 2 billion to 8 billion with 11 billion predicted by 2100.

Mother Nature has already begun to exact her just due, as planetary events of flooding, fires, hurricanes, deadly pollution, and worldwide civil unrest makes clear.

Noonan’s list of people’s upsets is certain correct, but she joins the pack of pundits left and right who don’t report the population story or even understand why it directly or indirectly affect all the other ills mentioned above.

Does she and other bright sophisticated opinion formers know better–like Trump did in claiming election fraud—and fear that telling such truth would be too scary? No, probably not. And as we lurch forward, the population issue, now so well proven as our prime earthly risk, will just be ignored until those burgeoning promised effects go beyond recovery.

Some major world leaders of great wealth and influence do “get it” and we can only hope as this untenable situation evolves that they can influence a change of priorities.

Donald A Collins, Jr, my son in his recent book entitled “Women Deserve Free Contraception” sensibly suggests a benign way forward. But that route of course that would require enlightened worldwide cultural change, which as the world moves politically rightward gets even more impossible to implement.

Former US Navy officer, banker and venture capitalist, Donald A. Collins, a free lance writer living in Washington, DC, has spent over 50 years working for women’s reproductive health as a board member and/or officer of numerous family planning organizations including Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Guttmacher Institute, Family Health International and Ipas. Yale under graduate, NYU MBA. He is the author of “From the Dissident Left: A Collection of Essays 2004-2013”, “Trump Becoming Macbeth: Will our democracy survive?”, “We Humans Overwhelm Our Earth: 11 or 2 Billion by 2100?”, “What Can Be Done Now to Save Habitable Life on Planet Earth?”, “Vote”, “Can Homo Sapiens Survive?” and “Will Choice and Democracy Win?”.
