Kevin McCarthy is having a bit of trouble getting his Republicans aboard to assume House control with him as Speaker.
How could his Bakersfield California constituents have confidence in their native son after his flip flops on Donald Trump?
Remember what he said after Trump tried to stop Biden’s taking office before he right afterward skidadiled down to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Trump’s ring and praise him?

How Santos got elected is interesting but local media should have widely blasted their findings.
Sadly, so many small town papers as well as large city papers have succumbed to the electronic media that frequently misses local stories because newspapers’ impact has so declined. Thankfully the NY Times and the Washington Post survive, but the loss of good local newspaper coverage is influential in failing to catch bad news.

Santos’ Democrat opponent was apparently overconfident in this traditionally Democratic district and did not see or use the local media’s findings.
Why didn’t the local media make sure Santos’s lies were more widely reported?
All that Santos story will eventually come out, especially about where the money came from to fund his campaign, but he will be seated in Congress no doubt fending off legal attacks and not serving those who elected him.
However, many voters of both parties are now wondering why McCarthy and other major GOP leaders have been mute about Santos.
As his behavior proved with Trump, McCarthy will do anything to become Speaker thus defining his moral character once more.

Here are a few quotes from this above article:
While some of George Santos’ soon-to-be colleagues are encouraging investigations into his many resume fabrications, Kevin McCarthy’s speakership battle in a narrow majority is complicating his fate.
The New York Republican, who has admitted to fabricating much of his personal and professional biography, is set to be sworn into Congress the same day the House will start votes for a new speaker.
But House GOP leader McCarthy, with only four party votes to spare and an open rebellion among a handful of House conservatives, needs all the support he can get — even if it comes from a member-elect steeped in scandal.
One Republican has openly called for an internal investigation into Santos and others have privately said he’s likely to face probes. Meanwhile, McCarthy and other members of leadership have remained silent about Santos’ admitted fabrications about his past, including his Jewish faith, that he worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup and that he graduated from Baruch College.

Of course, all those GOP Trump ring kissing House members still in office will eventually elect McCarthy as Speaker. Ugh.
The party of Lincoln has become an anathema to honor and probity.
