However seemingly benign some of the estimated 10,000 world religions are the views of the several major ones pose (and always have) significant threats to personal liberties and now urgently the very sustainability of homo sapiens!
Now in the US the power of right-wing Christian extremism has reached completely unacceptable levels as it has taken over our Supreme Court.
The May 23 Washington Post article entitled “A 150-year-old law could help determine the fate of U.S. abortion access” discusses how this utterly obsolete, tyrannical obscenity could lead theoretically to a total ban on abortion in the US.

More evidence the right-wing legal movement is out to repeal 20th Century progress: Trump judges and anti-choice groups are using a long-dormant 19th Century law to advance their goal of a national ban on abortion https://t.co/URjEByMEAv

This ultimate abortion madness unfrocks the extremism of the so called Constitutional Originalists and the “textualists” who want to keep us, particularly women, in the “good old days” as brood mares!
Ironically, they stress no changes to this 1791 document, but apparently don’t care if the Constitutional rule about keeping church and state separate doesn’t apply.
Read the facts as Thomas Jefferson interpreted them here.
Aren't you people always yammering about the Constitution? The Bill of Rights has a passage about separation of church and state – for a reason. https://t.co/mTOPO93R4m

The Originalists are equally silent about the falseness of the 2nd Amendment which was passed so the Southern slave owners could keep their “property” in line and uneducated.
27 Constitutional amendments have passed so far and more are ungently needed.
As we know, banning abortion means banning safe abortions, but now as I have noted in a number of recent op ed pieces, adverse abortion rights relate to other issues favored by these same extremists.
Further, states which ban or restrict abortions are losing OB/GYNs and doubtless other health providers.
Those promoting Christian nationalism are seeking majority mainstream power and to a frightening degree have succeeded!
Doubtless dark money such as provided by Federalist Society’s Leonard Leo have played a key role in promoting anti-abortion access!
Here’s the ultimate irony: the real reason Leo types promote prolife is to gain more and more temporal political power!
Being anti-abortion is just a conveyer belt to restricting minorities from voting, stopping real gun control legislation, keeping racism and hatred alive, and ignoring the long ignored bipartisan need to fix our failed immigration laws among other issues affecting our democracy.
Worse, this extremist crowd cares nothing about the rapid deterioration of our planet’s environment. Note Trump’s dismissal of environmental impacts on his recent NH TV CNN interview with Kaitlan Collins.
Apparently, these folks feel their Christian god will save us all from the 6th Extinction that scientists warn is already well advanced!
45% of US yearly pregnancies are unintended, so let’s not fail to make all methods including choice available.
Read the Guttmacher Institute’s data here.
It has nothing to do with intelligence. Unintended pregnancies are more common among low-income/poor women, in part because the most effective long-acting contraceptives are costly and require a doctor’s appointment. https://t.co/1gAgCbx5U1https://t.co/Zz5TZ9xJx3 pic.twitter.com/1T3R1AVsxw

The Biden Administration has proposed more be done on climate control ASAP, but he has authorized more Alaskan oil drilling. Urgency on this issue by both parties has been inadequate and the US is Earth’s largest polluter!
The stark partisan political divide in our democracy makes secular progress dangerously undermined and this successful surge toward abortion restrictions by prolife extremism could cause serious health impediments for decades.
The 2024 election could prove to be the most significant step toward keeping our democracy and the taking of more urgent action on climate and environmental problems that all along have been driven by the impact of the unsustainable growth of human numbers.
