The non MAGA members of the GOP were doubtless not overjoyed by the performance of ex-President Donald Trump on CNN’s May 10th New Hampshire town hall program with Kaitlin Collins which also drew sharp criticism from many pundits such as the Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan.

Her opening paragraphs:

“Well, that was a disaster, a politically historic one. It situated Donald Trump as the central figure of the 2024 presidential cycle, certainly more compelling than the incumbent or the other competitors. It will have an impact on the campaign’s trajectory.

When it was over, I thought, of CNN: Once again they’ve made Trump real.

It was one of those events in which you understood within 45 seconds what you were seeing. He was greeted by a standing ovation. The audience didn’t surprise itself by doing this; it knew how it felt.

From that moment Mr. Trump dominated.”

Subsequent Fact checking remarks by Jake Tapper didn’t erase the free boost Trump got on CNN!

Having worked as I have for over 50 years to provide women with affordable safe convenient ways to avoid pregnancy, the current major impediments to such obvious benefits are religious or cultural barriers, nonsensical in a planet now moving well into that humongous 6th Extinction.

Women will find ways in any state to get abortions, thether legal or illegal but the OB/GYNs who serve them won’t stay in illegal abortion states’ jurisdictions.

As many states make abortion illegal, read here how their OB/GYN exits have already begun. And University hospitals must go against proper training to handle women’s health. Read here:

The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requires OB/GYN residency programs to offer education and training in comprehensive family planning — including clinical experience in induced abortion — to maintain accreditation, prompting programs in states with bans to send residents to other jurisdictions for training.

“Clinical experience in performing induced abortions is essential to the evidence-based practice of obstetrics and gynecology, and the decision was made to preserve the integrity of the requirement for preparing physicians to practice anywhere in the United States,” the council said in a statement by spokesman Justin Dreyfuss.

Tennessee’s abortion ban has complicated the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine’s ability to train doctors in abortion care and attract applicants to its obstetrics and gynecology residency, said Nikki Zite, vice chair of education and advocacy at school’s OB/GYN department.

Sending residents out of state for abortion training can be complicated, she said. Two residents who were unable to obtain licenses to train in another state were only able to observe abortions instead of receiving hands-on training. Other residents with young children may not want to leave town for more than a weekend.”

As a number of my recent op-eds argue, abortion is tied to other issues which suffer from GOP repression! Here’s one.

When CNN host Kaitlin Collins mentioned the debt crisis happening it didn’t bother Trump either and he said it should happen. When Collins noted that as President he has warned against a default’s dangerous consequences, he blithely said, “But I’m no longer President”! But he’s poised to be the GOP nominee!!

Former US Navy officer, banker and venture capitalist, Donald A. Collins, a free lance writer living in Washington, DC, has spent over 50 years working for women’s reproductive health as a board member and/or officer of numerous family planning organizations including Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Guttmacher Institute, Family Health International and Ipas. Yale under graduate, NYU MBA. He is the author of “From the Dissident Left: A Collection of Essays 2004-2013”, “Trump Becoming Macbeth: Will our democracy survive?”, “We Humans Overwhelm Our Earth: 11 or 2 Billion by 2100?”, “What Can Be Done Now to Save Habitable Life on Planet Earth?”, “Vote”, “Can Homo Sapiens Survive?”, “Will Choice and Democracy Win?”, “Can Our U.S. Survive 8 Plus Billion of Us” and “Economic Growth: A Cancer on all Earthly Life”.
