On July 17th on WETA Geoff Bennett interviewed former US House Speaker Dick Gephardt who heads a new bipartisan organization called Citizens To Save Our Republic which seeks to get a 3rd party called No Labels NOT to run a moderate Democrat or a moderate Republican as 3rd party candidate. It is not clear to me who would be their Presidential candidate, a DINO or a RINO!!
The key point, after taking careful and comprehensive polling, Gephardt and his bipartisan colleagues, all distinguished former elected leaders, believe the No Label Party would siphon off enough Biden votes sufficient to elect Donald Trump President.
A new bipartisan organization is opposing the effort by the group No Labels to run a third-party candidate in the 2024 presidential race. Their fear is a spoiler candidate could help Donald Trump. @GeoffRBennett discussed that with @dickgephardt. https://t.co/hMNKuc6mLM

It is hard to imagine what Trump would NOT do if elected to destroy our democracy, including attacking all Federal departments particularly the US Justice Department by appointing cronies willing to do his bidding.
Obviously, with margins so thin—44,000 votes in 6 key swing states elected Biden in 2020—even though Biden won by 4 million votes, but the Electoral College votes determined the winner. Even if no 3rd party candidate runs, the Presidential election in 2024 will still be close as before.

Then, more potential trouble, as ABC news reported on March 13th, “Sen. Joe Manchin leaves Democrats guessing: Will he run for reelection … or the White House?”
This could surface shortly as the story says,
Many Democrats are starting their least favorite sexennial waiting game: hoping Sen. Joe Manchin runs for reelection while having little recourse to sway the willful West Virginian.
Manchin, one of the most conservative members of his party and an occasional thorn in the side of Senate leadership and the Biden White House, is keeping his cards close to the vest, as he often does before his seat is up, multiple sources told ABC News.
He has said he will not announce until December his future plans — which he’s indicated could include running for reelection, retiring from politics or waging a bid for the White House in 2024.”

Sen. Manchin is not loyal to anyone but Senator Manchin.
Neither the people of WV or Senate Democrats mean anything to him. His only loyalty is to his bank account. Literally, everyone else can fuck off.#FreshStrong#FreshResists#TraitorJoeManchin https://t.co/rJY6WgZzmB

Manchin has had long time connections with the No Label Party and Democrats are shivering that he will join them to further make Gephardt’s fear a fact.
The Hill’s May 2, 2023, story gives us this background.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) is stepping up his criticism of President Biden’s leadership, stirring speculation that the maverick Democrat may challenge Biden as a third-party candidate in 2024.
Manchin notes he has had a 12-year relationship with No Labels, the centrist political group that is trying to gain access to the ballot in all 50 states to open a path for a third-party candidate to run for president.
He praises the group as just about the only one in Washington trying to get Republicans and Democrats to cooperate and says voters are “starving” for less partisanship in politics.
“I’ve been part of No Labels since December of 2010. It’s the only game in town that wants to bring people together and get Democrats and Republicans working together,” he said.
Asked about to talk that he could run nationwide on the No Labels ticket, Manchin said “people are starving, starving to work together.”
He said voters are sick of “this constant, daily routine of everyone’s against everybody and everybody’s fighting and arguing.”
“Let’s be for the country and get something done,” he said.
He has repeatedly declined to knock down chatter that he may run for president as a third-party candidate and told reporters last week he won’t make a decision about his political future until the end of the year.
He didn’t announce his decision to run for a third Senate term until Jan. 23, 2018 — a few weeks into the election year.”

As my last OP ED noted, Biden has moved a tremendous number of important issues forward. One of my colleagues emailed me his opinion on one major Biden accomplishment: “To me the most significant accomplishments of the Biden presidency are the repair of the US relationship with NATO and his firm response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I view these as leadership issues and Biden has met the test.”
The Manchin option is not dead nor clear since getting agreement between Democrats and Republican seems uncertain as this article illustrates.
One thing agreed on: No Labels need not divulge the donors fueling the drive toward a third-party bid. “I don’t think it’s right or good. I think there should be transparency and accountability,” Huntsman said. “But that’s not the way you play the game.” https://t.co/rbcYU9qcmo

The concern I have has to be that Biden’s many wins will not be recognized by too many voters, who may stay at home or get conned into voting for Trump without understanding its dire implications.
A further scary thing to me is the fact that many non MAGA Republicans KNOW what this dangerous unscrupulous felon would do with his Presidential power if he were suddenly reelected in 2024, but with this knowledge still are willing to risk giving Trump dictatorial power with the ability to destroy of our democracy.
So let’s pray no Dinos and Rinos run candidates and risk disaster.
