Since the Supreme Court killed Roe/Casey on June 24, 2022, I have been writing that this CONSTITUTIONAL right given to women by the 1973 Blackman decision would become the major issue in the elections in 2024.
Read here about the 6/24/22 decision.
Friday’s decision by the US Supreme Court which overturns the 50-year-old Roe v Wade judgement guaranteeing access to abortion across the United States, was described by the UN human rights chief as “a huge blow to women’s human rights &gender equality.”https://t.co/YSZAgHfnDe

Now the Ohio election on amending its state constitution which was seen as a precursor to restricting abortion rights in the next election.
“The defeat means a proposed amendment on the ballot in November will require just a simple majority to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution.”

This vote was preceded by numerous similar rejections by voters in other states of anti-abortion legislation.
As this Times article says, “It was clear in November 2022, when abortion-related questions were on the ballot in five states with different political leanings, and all five states voted in favor of abortion rights. It was clear this April, when a majority of voters in closely divided Wisconsin elected a liberal Supreme Court justice who had run on her support for abortion rights.”
The article says,
Here are four takeaways from the (Ohio) vote.
Abortion rights is a turnout engine …
… and Republicans are struggling to adjust.
Democracy arguments are potent.
Ballot measures will remain important.

The huge GOP/Democrat divide in America on many issues include immigration, rights on guns, LGBTQ and voting to name a few others.
But the most important draw for independents and democrats will be protesting the GOP attacks on the right to choose.
This long time right of choice so abruptly withdrawn caused unprecedented legal challenges and subjected women and their families to hardships for which the GOP will not be forgiven until that right is restored. Banning abortion only bans safe abortions.
While the recent reports on the unconscionable acceptance of gifts by Supreme Court Justices have reduced its reputation to an all-time low, its Dobbs decision has been primary in its descent, which can be read about here.

This Dobbs decision will join the list of the Court’s worst since the Dred Scott in 1856 and the Plessy vs Ferguson in 1896, the latter being partially rectified by the Brown vs the Board of Education in 1954.
Read about that 1954 victory.
While not perfect, women had Roe for almost 50 years until the honored precedence of Stare decisis was ignored by the 6-3 majority of religiously motivated zealots last year.
Most voters will inflict punishment on any party which fails to restore Roe and it certainly won’t take another 50 years!
How about a Constitutional Amendment like the ones passed about slavery, which abrogates slavery against women?
Listen carefully and the GOP candidates now running are scared and will be more frightened as 2024 approaches.
The Biden Presidency has brought stability, integrity, accountability, transparency, and sound governance, while the GOP is offering dangerous governance, no climate concerns, racist views on LGBTQ and wants power to control votes which would further undermine our democracy.
Time to listen again to the Robert Reich TV on Trump as he proves his strong fascist predilections out of his own mouth!!
To those Democrats who want Biden to retire, I caution that their efforts will almost certainly help Trump and risk the horror of a Trump 2nd term!
