Is Biden’s Legacy Assured? Yes If He Steps Down And Doesn’t Run In 2024 And Trump Gets Thrashed!

President Biden, most knowledgeable journalists agree, has done a good job in a country politically divided like 1860.

It seems almost certain Biden will be seeking a 2nd term next year and I will be fully prepared to vote for him again.

But these are remarkable times when the equivalency between the slavers of the South in 1860 and the potential destruction of democracy from a possible Trump victory is obvious to many sophisticated historians.

After watching the inability of the majority House GOP to govern and seeing the favorable Democratic results of the 11/7/23 elections in key states, Biden should be encouraged but far from certain of his ability to prevail in November 2024.

The swing states’ margins in the Electoral College were razor thin in 2020 and are predicted to remain so in the November 2024 election.

As the 11/5/23 NY Times article tells us in these early polls, “Trump Leads in 5 Critical States as Voters Blast Biden, Times/Siena Poll Finds “Voters in battleground states said they trusted Donald J. Trump over President Biden on the economy, foreign policy and immigration, as Mr. Biden’s multiracial base shows signs of fraying.”

History favors reelection of wartime US Presidents as Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson and FDR proved, this is not a usual election, but in which Biden will be attacked by the huge dark money of corporations and wealthy individuals such as Leonard Leo.

These corporate autocrats who have no limits thanks the 2010 Supreme Court’s decision on Citizens United and seem anxious to enable Trump’s quest for authoritarian control of our democracy.

Trump’s ruling plans include attacking those who opposed him while in office–see the Ruth Marcus’ article below.

Don’t be fooled by the sad fumbling of the US GOP House or the recent victories over the anti-choice legislation!

Trump will be the likely GOP nominee and Biden is highly unlikely to step down, although many suggest that CA Governor Gavin Newsome would be one of several new faces who would appeal to many Democratic voters; Robert Kennedy Jr., a bizarre 3rd party candidate, could take votes away from Biden.

The problem is that while those who voted to keep abortion rights, the Trump MAGAs didn’t vote in enough numbers to stop them, but the MAGA and others will turn out in much bigger numbers in the 2024 Presidential election which will be, in the opinion of experts left and right, very close.

Should Biden choose to step aside, the pernicious age issue refocuses on 77-year-old Trump whose legal problems as Christie detailed in the 11/7/23 Republican presidential debate will hound Trump all through 2024!

But Trump’s weak opponents for his confirmation almost certain his nomination.

Read here the pitiful challengers’ performance.

Karl Rove, a long time respected GOP advocate argues the Biden Trump matchup is viewed as a combined loser for voters from both parties. He says,

Democrats are right to be scared, but Republicans should be concerned, too. Both party’s front-runners have enormous weaknesses. Joe and Jill Biden are deluding themselves if they believe only he can defeat Mr. Trump. But the GOP leader could sink his own campaign with his constant trashing of his intra-party rivals and their supporters. Turned off, they could fail to turn out or even turn away from the GOP.

Neither party’s front-runner will be easily dislodged. But if no changes are made, Americans will get the worst dumpster fire of a campaign in history. It doesn’t have to be this way, and everyone but Messrs. Trump and Biden has good reason to try changing it. The party that picks a fresh face will likely win the White House.

Can Biden win? Of course. But democracy can’t afford a loss to Trump and his party of aspiring dictators!

Democrats are not going to win on the abortion issue alone. Biden needs to get out there in person which his age will make more difficult. If in person he can show the kind of firm command and eloquence he exhibited in his State of the Union address, then his speaking skills on the stump may suffice but are not his strongest quality. His strongest traits are his generally perceived integrity and a performance record in which took us out of the Trump swamp filled with his lies about election fraud, his racism, and his get even acrimony which has been forecast as the pattern for his 2nd term.

As the ‘Washington Post’s Ruth Marcus tells us, “Trump doesn’t just want to win. He wants revenge.”

Huge dark money and AI false accusations will feature the GOP’s campaign.

So let’s not get cocky about the abortion rights victories of 11/8/23. Let me repeat, those who voted to keep abortion rights will do so again in large numbers in 2024, but the Trumpers didn’t vote in as large numbers then but they turn out in big numbers in the 2024 Presidential election.

Should Biden choose to step aside, the pernicious age issue refocuses on 77 year old Trump whose legal problems as Christie detailed in the 11/8/23 Republican presidential debate will hound Trump all through 2024!

And China and Russia will try to tie Biden into growing international outrage over the Gaza deaths which will continue into 2024!
