Democracy’s Power Best Proved By The Creation, Launch And Start Of The James Webb Space Telescope!

Watching one of several WETA TV presentations of the development process, the challenging launching efforts and the fulfilling triumph of the stunning solar sightings of the James Webb Space Telescope again engaged my wonderment at what our democratic process could accomplish when all parts of our efforts worked together!

I argue that no other country besides the USA could have coordinated and accomplished what democracy allowed over a sustained period to happen. Because we were willing able to seek and get cooperation from around the world as well as from our own great resources which were built on allowing people from all over the world to put their faith in our system. We need immigration reform not based on the MAGA GOP form of false hysteria for political gain.

Now to my main point of the JWST example as to why and how working together the USA and its world helpers made the engineering feat of the century if not ever.

First was our pioneering instinct to continue our thirst for knowing more about our place in the vastness of the galaxies that the 1990 launch of the Hubble telescope permitted.

Read here about its history.

Second was the huge cost overruns and tortuous delays that the US Congress bravely kept funding from the late 1980s onward until the JWST’s grippingly suspenseful on its Christmas Day launch.

Third, the launch operations opened the start of years of expert execution of the testing and positioning of the delicate sophisticated technology then went into its design and construction.

Read about that full story here.

And there is so much more we will be learning from JWST as it continues to feed its amazing imagery to our earthly scientists.

In short JWST needed every resource and all participants from the US, its agencies and multiple world countries and many of its experts, to succeed in fulfilling its dramatic vision, its patient funding, the private sector engineering genius and the long view of the importance of knowing who we are!

My main point in repeating the above information: JWST’s example in my view offered a unique conceptual pathway toward our increasingly remote chance to escape destruction of sustainable human life on our tiny orb and with the time organize for a sustainable future.

Read on!

Judging from the turmoil afoot everywhere in the world the prospect for a fortuitous outcome is not one of optimism.

However, the primary message sent to us from the images of the multiple galaxies allows a stark assessment about the insanity of our long view of survival for world leaders to assess and act upon.

First the need for one world cooperation, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or governmental system. Certainly, an impassible hope based on current conditions.

The record of the UN has been idealistic while often too feeble, but its fervent, sustained and laudable address of our climate crisis offers a vision of what must happen to avoid that fast moving 6th Extinction.

With human numbers rapidly continuing to outstrip the planet’s ability to sustain its present 8 billion, the most realistic encouragement I offer can be the growing demand and rise in female equity with men which has to include their ability to compete equally in all aspects of society!

Women today everywhere have more reasons to contest male dominance and examples of male infidelity so that having babies in profusion as before is no longer desirable.

Women now have the means and a higher chance of controlling their fertility but even in the US every year half of births are unintended!

Will the ideologies fostered by religions with their powerful beliefs keep their adverse recommendations for human comity unattainable!

Will the greed for male power continue to foreclose the urgent need for peace to allow stability and time to recognize the broad need for world equity for all?

Looking at the possibility for the ideal example of JWST’s being replicated in time to save sustainability for all the flora and fauna needed to sustain homo sapiens seems remote.

However, there are growing signs of improvements in every area of concern I cited above! Smart people know this and are good at offering good at unheeded advice! However, the world juries in each crisis case, as in Trump’s multiple cases, are still out.

We could begin by not destroying our democracy in November 2024.
