Calling Democrats “Communists” or extremists in his campaign speeches gets Trump massive applause from his MAGA audiences which seem unaware that his election to a second term would allow him to rapidly contract freedoms, benefits to poorer people and implant in our entire government people whose primary qualification would be to follow Trump’s orders!

What has Trump done for his MAGA GOP? Oh, lest I forget he killed Roe, added $8 trillion to the national debt, and undermined our Constitutional government.

Biden offers a stable moderate approach designed to expand benefits to all citizens. For example, Biden just authorized on 2/21/24 a substantial reduction in student loan debt.

President Joe Biden on Wednesday will announce $1.2 billion of student debt relief for nearly 153,000 borrowers — and he’s sending emails to make sure they know whom to thank for it.

The administration’s latest tranche of loan forgiveness covers borrowers who are enrolled in Biden’s new loan repayment program, initially borrowed $12,000 or less and have been repaying their debt for at least 10 years.

That’s helping at a key level for younger voters.

But there’s far more which Trump and his GOP would doubtless call “socialism”!

In January the Biden Administration approved $4.9 billion in student debt relief for 73,600 borrowers bringing loan forgiveness of $136.6 billion for 3.7 million Americans.

By the way, the 2023 Department of Defense budget is over $800 billion, assuming it can survive Congressional delays. Our national debt is now over $31 trillion.

Recall Trump’s early first term priority got corporate taxes reduced from 35% to 21% while his annual budgets added $8 trillion to the national debt which was about $6 trillion when Clinton left office in 2001. That gave our companies more money to fund elections, since Citizens United made amounts unlimited in 2010.

Then subsequently in Trump’s term the IRS got less funding which gave the rich more chance to continue to pay less as the numbers of millionaires and billionaires increased to wild levels making the wealth gap bigger than ever before!

Since Trump’s big 2017 tax cut we learn that

The collective fortune of America’s 748 billionaires topped $5 trillion in September 2023, a near record high, and up an astounding $2.2 trillion (77%) since enactment of the Trump-GOP tax law—a reckless handout so heavily slanted towards the rich that it undoubtedly contributed to billionaires’ eye-popping wealth growth over the past nearly six years. Parts of the Trump-GOP tax law have already expired, or are scheduled to expire at the end of 2025, but Republicans want to make the whole package permanent at an estimated cost of $3.8 trillion—billions of which will undoubtedly flow into billionaires’ already bursting bank accounts.

Billionaire wealth growth was calculated by Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) based on data collected from Forbes. It’s the latest report from ATF in a series tracking billionaires’ rising riches that began early in the pandemic.

One well known billionaire Elon Musk went from $20 billion in 2017 to nearly $250 billion now.

60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck which showed that while Trump was helping the rich get dramatically richer the rest of us did not see the claimed flow downward for the benefit of poorer Americans.

Gosh, Mr. Trump, we will have to beware of those nasty communists and be careful about boosting of how much you have helped for our less fortunate.

Tell me again one thing you did to help your MAGA rooters!

Recall Trump’s remarks about not defending NATO allies who did not pay their 2% of their GDP’s and saying Putin could attack them suggest three things.

One, that Trump might withdraw from NATO, which like isolationists before Pearl Harbor, could mean if Ukraine falls US troops might have to fight Russians in Europe.

Two, Trump must feel close to Putin as he claimed in a one-on-one July 17, 2018 meeting with Putin that he trusted Putin over his own CIA!

As CNN tells us

US President Donald Trump, in a stunning rebuke of the US intelligence community, declined on Monday to endorse the US government’s assessment that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election, saying he doesn’t “see any reason why” Russia would be responsible.

Instead, Trump – standing alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin – touted Putin’s vigorous denial and pivoted to complaining about the Democratic National Committee’s server and missing emails from Hillary Clinton’s personal account.

“I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today,” Trump said during a joint news conference after he spent about two hours in a room alone with Putin, save for a pair of interpreters.

Read again that sad story.

Then Forbes Magazine tells how Trump again and again lauds Putin saying,

As Biden seeks to rally opposition to Vladimir Putin’s stunning repudiation of the post-World War Two international order, he has faced an onslaught of attacks from the Trump wing of the Republican Party. Last week, after Biden announced an initial round of sanctions against Russia, House Republicans issued a tweet saying, “This is what weakness on the world stage looks like,” with an image of the president walking away from a lectern after finishing his remarks to journalists. This response flies in the face of a venerable tradition of political opponents refraining from undermining a president during moments of international crisis that affect core national security interests.

Even more stunning were Donald Trump’s comments, reflecting his unflagging admiration for Putin and his autocratic ways. In a radio interview, Trump characterized Putin’s strategy to invade Ukraine as “genius.” Speaking at a fundraiser in Florida, Trump praised Putin as “pretty smart” and noted approvingly that the Russian autocrat is “taking over a country — really a vast, vast location, a great piece of land with a lot of people — and just walking right in.”.

Initially, Trump’s former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo fell in line behind his former boss, praising Putin as an “an elegantly sophisticated counterpart” who is “very shrewd.” As the Russians crossed Ukraine’s border, Pompeo hastened to walk back his remarks, calling Putin “evil.”

Trump’s undermining of U.S. values was reinforced by Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who questioned why Americans should be supporting Ukraine at all. He dismissed the former Soviet Republic, now a Western-oriented democratic country, as “a pure client state of the United States State Department.” Before the invasion, Carlson voiced sympathy for Putin by comparing him favorably to the Fox News commentator’s domestic critics: “Has Putin ever called me a racist?” he asked. “Is he trying to snuff out Christianity?”

Then of course Carlson’s February 12th interview with Putin.

Three, after many years of trying to do a major real estate deal in Moscow, he became President. One can only wonder what damaging information Putin has on Trump that keeps Trump from attacking Putin full bore!

Kathleen Parker’s 2/16/24 Washington Post column entitled When Trump speaks, really underlines the above points.

She says,

Donald Trump’s threat to essentially sic Russia on “delinquent” NATO members has produced a familiar reaction from the dark side: Take him seriously, not literally.

Oh, really? You mean the way some of us did back in the day? Never again.

Seven years ago, I wrote an infamous column based on my certainty that he would win the 2016 election, beating Hillary Clinton. Our institutions would ensure our survival no matter who won, I argued. I mistakenly averred, in one example, that Donald Trump was bluffing when he promised to halt immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries.

Ha. As we learned, he wasn’t. Now, he’s promising to expand his first-term bans to people trying to escape the war in Gaza. In October, he told an Iowa crowd that he’d also initiate “ideological screenings” of all immigrants.

Absurd? Of course. It’s not only that such screenings would ignore basic civil liberties but also, by the way, people lie. Trump surely knows this. What we should know — from experience — is that Trump’s off-the-cuff remarks have a way of becoming policy, at least for a time. Thus, it is only rational to take his literalness seriously.

When the former president said during a recent campaign stop at South Carolina’s Coastal Carolina University that he wouldn’t stop Russia from going after countries who weren’t paying their fair share as members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, I believed him 100 percent. Still more dangerously stupid, he said he would “encourage” Russia to attack our NATO allies who haven’t met their financial obligations.

So not knowing the full extent of Trump’s guilt in engineering his coup attempt and his plan for retribution and dictatorship if re-elected, that prospect should totality belie the Presidential race with many polls showing Trump winning! But it does not.

Trump is on the wrong side of many issues. How can Americans embrace his anti-democracy, climate, gun control, choice and Constitution views?

Our economy goes well with falling inflation, with low unemployment–in fact we need workers–while the immigration issue gets worse and that bipartisan bill to fix it gets defeated at Trump’s insistence because Trump wants an issue to run on against Biden.

How can any American vote for such a person? I am still incredulous.
