Let’s examine Trump’s positions on various issues which concern us and the world.

In my op ed of 2/19/24 I named some of them:

Donald Trump doesn’t believe in our Constitution, our rule of law, in personal integrity, in NATO, in Choice, in gun control, but is strong on lying, fostering Christian nationalism, which attacks our vital concept of separation of church and state, in his promoting isolationism and to his stated personal ambition to achieve authoritarianism. Other downsides to Trump could be added.

As New York Times columnist David Brooks noted in his 2/8/24 opinion piece “Trump’s complete capture of the GOP has dangerous implications for our democracy.”

Start with Trump’s views on climate. As this 2/6/24 Guardian piece tells us, “‘In a word, horrific’: Trump’s extreme anti-environment blueprint” and its first sentence reads “Allies and advisers have hinted at a more methodical second term: driving forward fossil fuel production, sidelining scientists and overturning rules”.

Read the entire piece here.

As we move deeper into the already well started 6th Extinction, this story of continuing in winter Canadian forest fires confirms the urgency of acting on climate and environmental problems.

“Beneath the ground in western Canada, more than 150 zombie fires that started last year are still burning in the dead of winter.”

Then how does the likely GOP Presidential nominee look at gun control as killings occur at the same pace as in prior years? This April 23, 2023 NBC headline reads, “Trump says mass shootings are not ‘a gun problem’ as 2024 GOP hopefuls pledge loyalty to the NRA” and opens with “The former president and his rivals for the Republican nomination vowed to defend and expand gun rights in the wake of rampages in Kentucky and Tennessee.”.

Read this cavalier denial of the rampages which will be ongoing under Trump.

The big winner in the 2/24/24 South Carolina Trump primary featured the fact that that 60 percent of his votes came from white Christian Nationalists who are anxious to install their religion in law and eliminate the separation of church and state as provided in our Constitution!!!

As the 2/20/24 article in Vanity Fair tells us, “Trump Allies Hope to Spread Christian Nationalism in the White House”. It begins, “The religious right is already crafting a radical vision for a second Trump term.”

Read the story here.

Is Trump a racist? As January 2024 PBS reports says, “Trump displays racist tactics as rematch with Biden appears likely”. It begins,

Republicans are increasingly coalescing around former President Trump, even as the likely GOP presidential nominee continues to use racist and incendiary language. From circulating baseless conspiracies about his presidential rivals to demonizing immigrants — Trump’s rhetoric has reshaped the party’s base. White House correspondent Laura Barrón-López joins Amna Nawaz to discuss. Ump deploys racist tactics as Biden rematch appears.

How about fixing our immigration crisis?

This issue highlights the overall inability of the MAGA GOP to govern, since its is under Trump control and House Speaker Mike Johnson kowtows fully to Trump’s orders not to accept the compromise immigration bill the GOP requested so Trump could use issue in his campaign against Biden.

I really must repeat my 2/19 op ed on this situation, which sadly now is deadlocked as noted above. My piece is entitled “Immigration Reform Laws Will Never Pass Without Congressional Compromise On Reality”.

To briefly summarize, I stated

The failure of the Senate compromise bill on immigration reform is just the latest of many attempts at rational laws on immigration in the years since John Tanton founded FAIR in 1978!

I have for years expressed my fealty for enacting laws to regulate fairly the immigration issue. We need such regulation, but as you will read, my views have changed but only to the extent of my personal priorities on key issues. Trump must never again occupy the Oval Office, but those who failed in enacting immigration laws without calling Trump to account are threatening our future if he were elected.”

Finally but primarily let’s call Trump on choice, about which he is fond of bragging that he is the most pro life President ever to serve.

I would seriously question the pleasure the hard right pro life folks will be about his rumored embrace of getting a 15-week abortion plan into his platform.

He will try the 15-week scam since the results in red and blue stated show the public is overwhelmingly prochoice.

Despite the railing by the prolife crowd about claims choice advocates favor late term abortions, there are no late term abortions except to remove fatally damaged fetuses or to end a tubal ligation pregnancy which can be fatal to the mother.

A Time writer tells us that “Democrats will need to work harder if they want voters to remember how we ended up with the current abortion landscape. Trump’s indifference to an issue so central for so many voters is easy to identify as a character flaw. It also could represent a sophisticated—if cynical— understanding of what he needs to do to return to power.”

As the campaign year evolves, the Presidential nominees are likely Biden and Trump again. Regardless of the status of Trump’s legal woes, the above articles on Trump’s parallel resemblance to the rise of Adolph Hitler will become more and more evident. Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich made an early film of this similarity which you can view here.

The MAGAs are apparently unrelenting going to support these Trump vows of retribution, hate, racism, and prolife tyranny for women, so your vote gets to be the most important vote for democracy in my almost 93-year life time.
