Marjorie Taylor Greene, House Republican from Georgia, just got what she has as her only reason to be there–major media attention–by threatening to play the stupid disruptive trump card–a motion to vacate–that would call a floor vote that would oust Speaker Mike Johnson!

The appropriations bill that Speaker Johnson narrowly got passed on March 22nd went to the Senate which acted to pass the bill at midnight avoiding a shutdown. Biden signed it!

Now Johnson could save his Speakership himself according to Adam Kinzinger the former 6 term GOP Illinois congressman who told CNN if Johnson simply put the Ukraine funding bill on the floor the House Democrats would support it and the urgently needed money would be provided because the Senate bill is already presented to the House for a vote!

It’s not complicated, it just requires the action the 3/22/24 Politico article entitled “House Dems could have Johnson’s back on ouster threat — if Ukraine aid gets a vote” which says:

House Democrats say Mike Johnson has an option to control his future over a motion to vacate from Marjorie Taylor Green: putting a Ukraine aid package on the floor. Several Democrats from across the ideological spectrum said in interviews with POLITICO they would motion to table Greene’s resolution — if it came to a vote — if Johnson put a Ukraine aid package on the House floor for a vote.

All Democrats previously voted to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy along with a group of Republicans last fall. “I think Speaker Johnson should demonstrate a willingness to govern in a way that is helpful to the plight of democracy and our allies across the world,” said Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), who said she’d vote to set aside the motion if the Senate-passed foreign aid bill came up for a vote.

“If Taylor Greene puts forth a motion to vacate because there’s a bill on the floor that we have the ability to vote on — the Senate-passed Ukraine bill — I would absolutely vote to table,” she said.

“It’s not a question of saving Mike Johnson,” seconded Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.). “I’ll make a common cause and an alliance with anybody in Congress who will try to save the Ukrainian people at this point.”

And in recent days, Johnson has indicated privately to some Democratic lawmakers he would put a Ukraine aid bill up for a vote after lawmakers came back from their Easter recess. Johnson has signaled that foreign aid would be the House’s next priority after wrapping up government funding this week.

“I had a very positive conversation with Speaker Johnson today where he assured me that the Ukraine aid package would come to the floor,” Rep. Annie Kuster (D-N.H.) told POLITICO on Thursday. “And I feel confident with that.”

Democratic leadership indicated they would first hear out their members before deciding on a plan of action.

We can pray that Ukraine aid so desperately needed can finally get approved, but the hopeless incapacity of the GOP governance should awaken even some Trump cultists about Trump’s fitness to serve as President. If no aid the prospect exists for the US and our NATO allies having to send our troops there, a move which Putin says could prompt a Russian nuclear response.

Both the Senate and House are on 2-week recesses as Ukraine’s capital Kyiv get more harshly attacked including its nuclear power plant. The GOP irresponsibility for this delay is inexcusable. Will Speaker Johnson get the Senate approved Ukraine appropriation bill on the House floor when the House returns? Not if enough other extremist Marjorie Taylor Greene House members back her motion to dismiss and Johnson is ousted.

Not only can’t the MAGA GOP govern but they won’t govern except with permission from Trump who is now an isolationist in the mold of Joe Kennedy Sr and Charles Lindbergh who kept us from addressing the Axis powers prior to WW II until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1942.

Now Trump also wants us out of NATO and letting Putin do whatever he wants if our NATO allies don’t pay what Trump calls their fair share for the Ukraine war. His affinity for dictators and Trump’s affection for Putin is well known as my 3/21/24 Op Ed argued.

A Putin win over Ukraine which is bravely fighting a proxy war which the US and our NATO allies will need to do if Ukraine falls.

Yet polls keep saying Trump can win in November because Americans are mad at Biden for being too old, unrecognized for having done a great job in his first term.

Some people forget the truth about the Trump years. Try reading a 3/22/24 Washington Post article entitled “You think Trump was good on the economy? 2020 wants a word.”

It begins with

“Three more years! Three more years!”

That’s what Donald Trump’s supporters should be chanting, given how long they seem to believe he was in office. After all, when describing the great economy and other idyllic metrics of the Trump administration, they conveniently lop off his fourth, and final, year, when everything crashed — and when he made that crash worse.

In recent weeks, allies of the former president have puffed up his record and diminished his successor’s. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) declared that Joe Biden’s presidency represents “the end of the American dream,” whereas under the “Trump economy we had American jobs going to American workers. Under the Biden economy we’ve got American workers getting fired and replaced with foreign labor.” Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) claimed that Black and Hispanic Americans were “better off under Trump,” since he presided over “the lowest unemployment rates for all racial demographics.”

The American public writ large also harbors nostalgia for the Trump years, based on polling on memories of the economy under Trump versus that under Biden. There are a couple of problems with these characterizations.

Trump is now on the stump telling his usual lies about what would have happened if his 2021 coup (not how he describes that event) if he had been in office! This 3/16/24 NY Times article states Examining Trump’s Alternate Reality Pitch Trump that war in Ukraine, Hamas’s attack on Israel, Inflation that none would have occurred if he had remained in office after 2020.
