Trump’s $454 Million Bond Blockage Has Huge Innuendoes!

Even if his inability to post a bond is only temporary, since Teflon Donald has powerful pals with money, this headline from the 3/18/24 NY Times story entitled “Trump Spurned by 30 Companies as He Seeks Bond in $454 Million Judgment” cast far more of a shadow on Trump than a financial inconvenience.

The article says,

Donald J. Trump’s lawyers disclosed on Monday that he had failed to secure a roughly half-billion dollar bond in his civil fraud case in New York, raising the prospect that the state could seek to freeze some of his bank accounts and seize some of his marquee properties.

The court filing, coming one week before the bond is due, suggested that the former president might soon face a financial crisis unless an appeals court comes to his rescue. Mr. Trump has asked the appeals court to pause the $454 million judgment that a New York judge imposed on Mr. Trump in the fraud case last month, or accept a bond of only $100 million. Otherwise, the New York attorney general’s office, which brought the case, might soon move to collect from Mr. Trump.

The former president has been unable to secure the full bond, his lawyers said in the court filing on Monday, calling it a “practical impossibility” despite “diligent efforts.” Those efforts included approaching about 30 companies that provide appeal bonds, and yet, the lawyers said, he has encountered “insurmountable difficulties.”

The companies would essentially promise to cover Mr. Trump’s judgment if he lost an appeal and failed to pay. In exchange, he would pledge collateral and pay the company a fee as high as 3 percent of the bond.

They appear to be balking over a significant problem: Mr. Trump does not have enough liquidity to obtain the bond. To offer a bond of this size, the companies would require Mr. Trump to pledge more than $550 million in cash, stocks and bonds as collateral — a sum he simply does not have.

In July 18th 2015, Trump then candidate for President said about John McCain “He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”

Touche, Donald.

Here is a full article you can read about Trump’s comments later about McCain, a US Navy fighter pilot shot down in Vietnam, spent 5 years in solitary confinement in a Hanoi prison, a gulag which I visited when in Vietnam on a family planning mission. He incurred lifelong wounds, but he showed huge will power and bravery. He then served honorably in the US Senate and as a Presidential candidate.

Trump hates the idea of being a loser, as his false claims of not losing the 2020 Presidential election prove. Despite his endless collection of crooked colleagues, he slithered though his slimy tenure making a constant flow of attacks on anyone who would cross him.

Trump now swears retribution and a bloodbath if he is not elected. These manically revealing comments have not kept such GOP luminaries such as New Hampshire Governor John Sununu and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell from endorsing him for President. Earlier however they called him out for his coup attempt but remarkably showed no sustaining courage like Wyoming’s Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney, Chris Christie and many other GOP members when treasonous Trump stole that party. Meantime, where are the voices of George W. Bush and James Baker?

As for meeting the timeline set by the court for payment by March 25th before confiscation of Trump properties can begin, Trump can be consoled by the fact that foreclosing on real estate is a messy business; also, he has valuable properties worth far more than the cash now due on these fines.

This may well prove to be another example of Teflon Don making an escape for now and blaming it on others for his own crimes. But the main message got financially reinforced. Who would ever want to do business with a crook? Apparently, a significant number of Americans want to entrust their democracy to a consistent liar.
