If Trump Wins Then Putin Wins!

It really couldn’t be simpler. Trump’s anti-NATO isolationist view of the traditional US role of defending democracy here and abroad as so evidenced by our roles in WW I and WW II will give Putin Ukraine.

Putin’s recent actions underline his continuing threat to the world as he purged free expression and also tried to assassinate Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky; Putin can’t wait for the US to reelect Trump.

Read here his attack on Russian liberals.

Further Trump’s election will allow the burgeoning global power of China, which has all along been helping Russia, to take a more dominant role in Asia even likely to encourage an attack on Taiwan.

In short Trump is pursuing the same dangerous scenario of those pre-WW II isolationists that included Joseph Kennedy Sr. and Charles Lindbergh which did not end until December 7, 1942, with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Recall our desperate race to rearm and stand against Hitler.

Thus, Trump’s MAGA GOP will certainly be voting in favor of the destruction of our democracy over the temporarily high prices of food and gas!

The only question is how many members of our wonderfully diverse multinational population will see that keeping the essential bones of our fragile democracy alive will recognize that a Trump victory will bring a plunge into authoritarianism and the loss of our key role in keeping the balance on world peace against the rising tide of Chinse and Russian tyranny!

With Trump’s creditability as Leader of the Free World destroyed by the above facts, one wonders how Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Mike Johnson could still contemplate voting for Trump. Others like Bill Barr and New Hampshire Governor Sununu fall in the same category. When will Nikki Haley or Mike Pence decide to put their country over power politics?

What other disastrous 2nd term plans does the Trump with his MAGA GOP offer most Americans?

In addition to retribution against alleged enemies, the dismantling of our government’s precious expert departments and the effective traditions that are now in place.

Whatever your personal issue might be ask yourself if installing a dictator will improve your life.

Primary issues such as increasing funding for environmental traumas well underway, abortion choice and control of guns, must be urgently acted upon.

Trump is the antithesis of unity & freedom. Our fragile democracy would be mired a difficult Trump induced miasma. An avenue to how a democracy is best maintained is delineated by Brook Manville and Josiah Ober so eloquently in their highly praised book published in October 2024, The Civic Bargain: How Democracy Survives. One reviewer said, “An impressive thoughtful book about what a democracy really is”, as the authors trace the histories of democracies from Greece, Rome, Britain, and the US, which in our case needing to constantly revise and renew its self-governing ability which can only come from civic education which leads to their active participation in governance.

The lack of urgency accorded that educational priority may have come too late as we now see vast voter ignorance so profoundly evident among too many of our citizens.

Understanding from his NATO view noted above, Trump’s utter inability to treat complex situations as in Gaza vs Biden’s measured responses exemplifies why Trump must never again be President.

Read the NY Times account of the Gaza situation here.

Of course, Trump’s moral unfitness for any public office gets highlighted again by the NYC trial in which this Washington Post article notes “Republicans have broadly adopted Trump’s claims of political targeting and unfairness — even as he keeps undermining them with ridiculous supposed evidence.”

We should approach the 5th with fear at seeing in daily media accounts the confusion of many voters, particularly younger ones, who in their myopic focus on their personal beliefs have lost the ability to recognize the unique nature of what our founding fathers produced and the value of its continuance.
