Democrats Have A Very Short Window To Decide To Keep Supporting President Biden And His Proud Record And Legacy!

Ever since Biden’s disastrous debate performance I have been torn, as have many Democrats, between sticking with Biden and seeking to replace him with his Vice President Kamala Harris or going to its convention and having an open contest for other choices.

On July 6 on CNN in the afternoon, I heard John Garamendi, a Democratic Congressman, endorse Biden and I have changed my mind from ousting to boosting Biden.

Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.) has a message for his fellow Democrats about the panic around President Biden’s candidacy: slow down and take a deep breath.

Garamendi joined Fox News Saturday to discuss the ongoing debate over Biden’s ability to take on former President Trump and serve another four years as debate fallout continues.

“I would say hold on here. Let’s not get into a panic. Let’s understand the enormous importance and the important work that Biden has done and what he can do in the days ahead,” he said as a message to House Democrats.

“Slow this down, this feeding frenzy that’s going on by the press and by many of my colleagues,” Garamendi continued. “Slow down, take a deep breath. Let’s take a look at what this president has done and also what he’s managed to do since that debate.”

Garamendi’s comments come as a growing number of House Democrats have called on Biden to step aside and allow someone else to have the opportunity to run.

Reps. Mike Quigley (D-Ill.), Seth Moulton (D-Mass.), Raúl Grijalva (D-Ariz.), Angie Craig (D-Minn.) and Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) all have publicly called on Biden to step aside.

Doggett, the first to make that call, said he hoped the debate would help the president’s campaign, but that he was left disappointed.

Grijalva said he will still support Biden but thinks it’s time the party chooses someone new. Quigley asked Biden to help the country by preventing “utter catastrophe” by letting someone else run.

This remined me of James Clyburn’s endorsement of Biden which secured him the 2019 Democratic nomination after apparently losing.

Let me begin my changed reasoning by being forthright. At 94, I have strong sympathy for Biden, this proud stubborn statesman whose first term has been a great success.

And I have written often that the main concern of the Democratic Party must be beating Trump.

Now this huge cacophony of Democrat voices calling for him to step down misses the main point. If Trump’s hopes for governing in his 2nd term are fully exploited anyone of many Democrats can beat him.

But with Biden and Harris you get two strong choices. Biden’s great record and Harris’s appeal to younger voters and minorities. Changing now put the stamp of disloyalty and confusion in the minds of swing voters in those key states.

Now Biden must try to resurrect his 6/27 debate flop. It is clear from what I read that he has the current acuity to perform adequately for 4 years, despite a large percent of all his voters who have serious doubts! He can have good days, but would be 86 and in his last year in a 2nd term.

My beloved grandfather who died at 86 had the same pattern of good days and bad. I know my memory blocks at various times while I can use SERI to recover, but Biden has a strong staff which has heard him be probing and articulate on complicated issues based on his decades of experience.

I obviously know my acuity is not what it was when I was younger, but I have managed since Trump arrived on the scene to author over 800 OP Eds many about his evils. Biden will have a majority of good days, and yes, he would be 86 and in his last year in a 2nd term.

Trump hopes Biden stays which makes his vast collection of crimes less observable to independent swing voters who frequently are not sophisticated enough to see Trump’s plan to be a king as Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor opined on the effect of the Court’s 6/3 immunity decision.

While enough concern about Biden’s long-term capacity now has surfaced all over the Democratic Party, note again that Biden will still have Harris to help with her credentials that appeal to younger voters and minorities.

Look at it this way: Like many senior business executives, Biden can if elected to a second term can assume the position of Chairman of the Board, making final judgement calls based on his vast credibility but not have to run a 100 yard dash. One debate doesn’t erase decades of judgement and success. And Harris has benefited from watching how Biden successfully engineered a powerful administration beset with many crises.

Polling shows that Harris now will do as well as Biden in a run against Trump. It is now clear that Biden’s fast forward into ceding is extremely important as the risk of Trump getting a second term has become untenably high.

Despite my own remarkable present health, I appreciate that a lessening of capacity is normal in Biden’s case. Increasingly in my later eighties I had the opportunity to begin changing the emphasis of my activities while still making input based on my experience on issues I care deeply about, while leaving some details of executive management to younger colleagues.

Biden has made comeback after comeback and if the campaign can show Trump’s historically dangerous warts Biden will not lose to Trump.

As Wikipedia tells us: “Biden has never lost a general election, though he failed to win the Democratic nomination for president in 1984, 1988, and 2008. Every winning Democratic presidential ticket in the 21st century thus far has had Biden on the ticket, either as president or vice president.”

Representative Garamendi, now 79, has been watching and applauding Biden for years. He endorsed Biden for President in 2019 saying, he was all in for the then Vice President.

“I want Joe Biden to be our next president,” the California Democrat said on “CNN Newsroom” Saturday, backing Biden over two other Democratic candidates running who have ties to California: US Sen. Kamala Harris and billionaire Tom Steyer.

“I want somebody that comes from the middle class, from the working American to be our president that understands what it is to try to make it in America as a family, working in a factory, on a construction job, or in an office, trying to put together the necessary resources to educate their kid, to provide their health care. That’s Joe Biden,” Garamendi told CNN’s Fredricka Whitfield. “That’s where he’s been through his entire career.”

To cede directly now to Harris or any of the other possible Democrats now would cost precious time, stoke uncertainty and weakness in many voters on the fence! We must not lose sight of the main task now which is to defeat Trump, the most dangerous man ever to run for President in our entire history!!!!!!!!!

Harris in her present role, not now as taking over for Biden, represents a relief pitcher of quality and capacity should Biden for health reasons need to step aside later in his term. For now his talent to handle complex foreign affairs and qual attacks by a manic felon which seeks to attack a government and nation which has made us the world’s most successful in history

Biden will be out in full pursuit of victory that will ensure the flow of major funding continues as Harris will gain growing support from the younger generation and the presently skeptical minorities!

Naysaying hurts the main goal now of beating Trump and I predict leading Democrats will soon realize it is time to get aboard.
