This past week, the FDA approved an updated version of mifepristone, a product which had been available to women since its approval in the late 1980s, which allowed women to terminate pregnancies up to nine or 10 weeks.

Leaving aside the controversial abortion issue, the total family planning methods for women in the United States is a contraceptive desert, with some 19 million of US women having access to no method at all.

Read the full Mifepristone story here.

“How it works: “Mifepristone blocks progesterone, the hormone that helps a woman’s body maintain the lining of the uterus during pregnancy. Misoprostol is then taken to complete the abortion process.”

The last paragraph in the above article particularly caught my eye.

“In August, Costco Wholesale (COST.O), opens new tab said it would not sell mifepristone across its U.S. pharmacy stores, citing low demand.”

Talk about ridiculous!! What is particularly irritating and unfair was the fact that a major retailer of such pills has decided not to sell them because they claim the demand was too low.

Obviously, these pills which require an MD prescription (again ridiculous) should’ve been available long ago with the same convenience as might exist for any other product in the store such as even toothpaste. You might imagine that the Trump administration had put some pressure on this retailer to abandon the sale of pills.

Turns out that the original version of mifepristone by the time the national right to abortion under Roe/Casey has been providing over 60% of all abortions in the United States.

Then the Dobbs decision in June 2022 killed Roe which had been functioning very well since the enlightened Supreme Court passage in 1973, which allowed the states to determine at what stage of pregnancy women could terminate abortions, some as late as quickening, which is between 24 and 25 weeks.

Turns out that there were about 613,000 abortions before Roe was lost but now that number between 2022 and 2024 has increased to 1.4 million.

“While the Overall Number of Abortions in the U.S. Increased in the Two Years After Dobbs, There is Great Variation Between States That Permit and Ban Abortion”

Estimated number of monthly abortions April 2022 (613,0000) to December 2024 (over 1 million in clinics).

You can read the facts in a massive article dated July 2025 here.

Or a shorter article here.

Substantial efforts are made by the red state governments to make it more difficult for women to get these safe mifepristone pills as well as forcing women to a lot of state where abortion is not legal and possibly be legally restricted for obtaining the relief they should’ve readily been able to get. Costs vary widely from $25 to $1000.

As Trump continues to tighten his authoritarian administration, there have been numerous to obtain the choices just as they have tried to restrict The right of women to find jobs which are not subject to male control even of such jobs have already been attained by women as in the case of the military, where the claim is made that women cannot handle commands in combat zones, despite the fact that has been true to be false.

Trump is trying to destroy the Constitutional requirement of keeping church and state separate by making Christianity the national religion.

You might wish to view the film “Whose Choice?” on this web site about the views of many religious faiths on abortion.

You can watch it here, hosted by the lawyer Sareh Weddington who successfully agued Roe before the Supreme Court in 1973:

The surge of women in attaining top positions in many fields makes Trump’s attempts against women’s choice, cruel and ludicrous!!

So the real irony of killing Roe has not been to restrict abortions but to actually increase abortions and the dangers to women without cutting the numbers of abortions even as abortions are not are not so readily obtainable as they were before Roe went down.

Of course, Trump’s efforts to restrict freedom of speech as provided under the first amendment of our constitution I was questioned strongly by the recent Jimmy Kimmell cancellation on ABC, which was quickly rescinded by that network’s owner Disney, which found that its action created a public relations a crisis affecting its core businesses.

Historically restricting women’s birth control choices around the world continues because of inadequate distribution of methods.

So that means the worlds human numbers now increase yearly by about approximately 80 million per year, ensuring that the present number of 8.2 billion people will increase by the end of this century to 12 billion if sustaining under survivable conditions can be such huge numbers can be sustained.

Far more likely is the prospect of having birth control provided by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, namely, war, pestilence, disease, and starvation. Our Earth cannot sustain our present numbers and especially not 12 billion.
