Trump knows if Democrats win, he could be tried for many reasons, including treason! Between now and the midterm elections on November 5, we will see a further deterioration in Trump‘s popularity, but Democrats can articulate his unique sins better to ensure a substantial increase in support for Democrats and new voters, since many voters of both parties have grown disgusted with the records of both parties and frequently fail to show up to vote.

Democrats can take heart from the strong emotions that helped secure victories in both the US Senate and House on March 28, but they should not become complacent or overconfident.

The opportunity for Democrats to join the GOP in indicting, convicting, and removing Trump has long since passed, and it seems unlikely to happen now. The most prominent example of Trump’s conduct is his attempted coup at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, which highlights the GOP Senate’s failure to respond—an act some consider treasonous.

For some time now we have seen Trump trying every possible mechanism to obtain voting rights for Republicans in the upcoming midterm elections in November.

In a March 17th New York Times article entitled “Trump’s gutting of election security fuels worries for midterms” by Adam Sella he reports

Since returning to office Mr. Trump has tried to bend election mechanics to his will kicking off and redistricting war with little precedent, bombastically calling for elections to be nationalized and giving the FBI sees materials from the 2020 election in Georgia and Arizona. Outside the spotlight his administration has effectively gutted election security infrastructure that Mister trump himself created in his first term including CISA’s election team and a program responsible for sharing threat intelligence with state and local officials. Paragraph with less than 8 months until the 2026 midterms, republican and democratic lawmakers and election officials across the country say that much of CISA’s report has disappeared forcing them to prepare for an election without the agency as a trusted partner. They worry that elections will be more susceptible to cyber-attacks and foreign influence campaigns.

Author Sella continues:

With less than eight months until the 2026 midterms, Republican and Democratic lawmakers and election officials across the country say that much of CISA’s support has disappeared, forcing them to prepare for an election without the agency as a trusted partner. They worry that elections will now be more susceptible to cyberattacks and foreign influence campaigns.

Of course the White House is constantly claiming that the entire Trump administration is focused on ensuring the safety and security of American elections.

However, this does not ensure that the effort to federalize these elections will cease. Care must be taken that does not happen because this would provide a major boost to Trump’s chances for having his administration keep his control of the US House of Representatives and possibly the US Senate.

Bad as things are under authoritarian Trump, Democrats need also to demonstrate that they can govern and improve on key issues. Campaigning must Include stressing the Democrats capacity to work on affordability, housing shortages and their capacity to make life better for our less wealthy citizens by ensuring restoration of health care and other services the Trump administration has eliminated.

Between now and the midterm elections on November 5, Trump’s popularity is likely to decline even further. However, unless Democrats improve their messaging, a significant boost in their support is unlikely. Many voters remain as noted by many observers dissatisfied with both parties and often abstain from voting. Democrats need keep up the political pressure with more demonstrations and media coverage especially on the Iran War.
