While I’ve written many opinion pieces on Trump’s disastrous era, I acknowledge that my factual presentation hasn’t always matched the sharpness of other media writers.
Trump’s numerous rule violations have placed an unprecedented strain on our democracy.
My latest book, the seventeenth, explores how President Trump and his allies have broken virtually all of our established norms.

However, our failure to address environmental issues—such as melting polar ice, rising sea levels, and unprecedented weather—will certainly have longer-lasting consequences than any of Trump’s political misdeeds.
Unlike past extinctions, this crisis stems from humanity’s rapid progress since the Yucatán asteroid strike 66 million years ago.
In her 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Sixth Extinction, Elizabeth Kolbert explains how human actions are pushing us toward a possible fate similar to the dinosaurs’ disappearance.

This madman Trump has ignored the obvious and urgently needed actions to treat the above threats but he has been well abetted by all of us as we ignore those concerns and move toward an extinction which Kolbert so persuasively told us about.
While the fertility rate of women is declining rapidly the growth of human numbers since my birth in 1931 has grown from 2 billion to 8 billion and has taken us beyond the level of sustainability that our small planet is capable of.
Who could tell at this juncture what the effect of our growing technologies such as AI will have, but at least they could give us some time to better address such ills as war, violence, poverty and disease.
Will the capacity of robots reduce the need for humans? Will this be good for the war business or the patronage at parks and recreation? Kolbert’s case grows stronger all the time!!
