Mifepristone controversy attacks women!

The absurdity of attempting to limit the distribution of Mifepristone underlines the manic ideologies now put forward by those who would ban women’s choice about when and if women don’t wish to become pregnant.

Since the Supreme Court killed Roe/Casey in 2022, the circumstances for women to safely obtain an abortion have been seriously impacted.

How sad, since after nearly 50 years of use, the Blackman decision of 1973 enabled women to obtain abortions safely and at reasonable cost in all states.

Now this birth control Civil War has erupted to the point where religion has completely overtaken science and is determining public policy.

You can read the Pew Research Center polling that 605 voters feel about abortion, rights here.

Views on abortion, 1995-2026

Most U.S. adults continue to express support for legal abortion. Currently, 60% say abortion should be legal in all or most cases, while 38% say it should be illegal in all or most cases.

It is to be hoped that the Supreme Court will reconfirm the right of women to receive these early abortion pills by mail in every state.

The Supreme Court has temporarily restored mail-order access to the abortion drug mifepristone, after a federal appeals court curtailed access to the drug on Friday.

In a brief order Monday, Justice Samuel Alito put on hold a decision by the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals that limited how patients could obtain the pills.

Alito’s order is in effect through May 11, giving all nine justices time to consider requests from the drug’s manufacturers to keep the appeals court’s ruling on ice while the Supreme Court considers whether to take up the issue.

The cruelty of continuing attacks on a Proven safe medication and it disrupted civil right can only infuriate voters as they consider their choices in the upcoming midyear elections, but also in every single election anywhere in the country where we find candidates prepared to inflict their religious views on a civil issue.

In short at this time, it appears very discouraging for those who believe in women’s choice since they have the Supreme Court working for them against all the religious fanatics that have been trying to keep women from obtaining choice.

Perhaps this story is relevant.

During the Civil War, Lincoln cautioned General Hooker, who had reorganized the Union Army but was overly confident, advising him not to boast about victories before achieving them—comparing this attitude to a hen that waits until after laying an egg to cackle.

And our democracy is now under its greatest threat since the civil war and likens words at Gettysburg are timelier than ever when he said e were testing whether this nation or any nation can endure. And neither side should cackle!

In the 50 years since the Roe decision women have asserted themselves in many public and political ways. It took from 1848 to 1920 for women to get the right to vote, but now are now supremely aware of the vicious, cruel and stupid behavior of the Supreme Court use of religion as a club against civil liberties and the health of women.

Former US Navy officer, banker and venture capitalist, Donald A. Collins, a free lance writer living in Los Angeles, CA, has spent over 60 years working for women’s reproductive health as a board member and/or officer of numerous family planning organizations including Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Guttmacher Institute, Family Health International and Ipas. Yale under graduate, NYU MBA. 1. THanks for sending me Don, We are truly at one of the worst times since the 1950's for women's reproductive health. Glad to get your ideas and applaud your work
