After showing no spine whatsoever, the GOP has decided, as we are amid war, struggling to decide what to do about AI and watching our economy continue to destroy the lives of most of our people, now Mike Johnson, US Speaker decided that this is exactly the perfect time to stop doing any work for the American people.

Yes, Mike Johnson sent the House of Representatives home until after the midterm elections on November 3.

Of course, Johnson was fully aware that there were enough votes in the house of representatives to call for impeachment of the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

Trump gives us the daily opportunity to hear other ideas that he can act upon such as demanding that if his name can’t be restored to the Kennedy Center there is an excellent opportunity that he will tear the building down.

Trump undoubtedly will seek to put his name on other places without getting any authorization from Congress or anybody else, which has been his behavior, in connection with the White House where he tore down the East Wing without authorization and then proceeded to bend construction of his fancy ballroom.

Now of course, that Trump construction on this fancy ballroom, despite court orders against it, and that it is well started, it is highly likely that construction will not be stopped.

It will be finished including a basement center for security operations, none of which were authorize along the usual channels, especially since payment for this new addition will not be handled by private donations but by the American taxpayer.

Our 50,000 “sitting duck” military forces in the Middle East were just attacked by Iran and it does not seem impossible to think that some entity will decide, as Osama bin Laden did in 9/11, to attack here in the United States. There are lots of people with weapons that could do that, and we are simply driving people into doing stupid things.

This recess by the US House hopefully won’t defer urgent deliberations on curbing the rapid and potentially disastrous growth of artificial intelligence, a situation which has been described by leading members including Elon Musk and other AI developers such as the president of Anthropic, Dario Amodei.

One piece of good news would be the Federal Reserves, raising the interest rate on 9/17, based on the fact that inflation is rising and going in complete opposition to Trump, who has been demanding that interest rate rates be lower, which, of course would accelerate inflation.

There was bipartisan support from Congress and Wall Street for the Fed’s unanimous vote to take that action and shows that the new Fed chairman Warsh is not totally a Trump yes man.

Obviously, Trump has gotten desperate and the decision of the Supreme Court to not allow him to manipulate the US Post Office into meddling in the mailing of mail ballots at least gives some hope that elections will be conducted fairly, despite the fact of the extensive gerrymandering of districts intended to cut out many minority votes.

Democrats need to be very strategic in all of their moves at this point without taking any pressure off the presence of low GOP popularity. They need to also find ways of telling voters what they will do from a policy standpoint to be helpful to our struggling citizens. This week I stopped at a gas station and it cost $90.00 to fill the tank.

My prediction that Trump would be out of office by the midterms was of course completely wrong, but in a sense that could be very true if the results of the midterms include Democrats taking control of the Senate. Undoubtedly, the House of Representatives under Democratic control will impeach Trump for his corruption, and his innumerable unconstitutional behaviors.

I have written that if the Democrats take over the US Senate it might even make enough Senators realize the enormity of Trump’s criminality and its effect on our reputation around the world to allow the amassing of 67 votes in a trial in the Senate that could oust him.

Two major priorities of Democrat Congressional control would be of rid of Citizens United and stopping gerrymandering.

We must urgently begin to address the looming problems that the Trump administration and the gutless GOP put America into – an awfully long way to climb back into respectability with its allies. That of course would mean that we would have to have a sufficient majority in the Senate to be able to overcome a Trump veto.

These final two years of Trump will be as painful as any time in the history of our country.

There are huge challenges ahead for regaining trust and somehow restraining our runaway national debt.

Most citizens of the United States and I fear too many around the world do not understand that human life on this planet is at a crossroads as it has never been before. The threats of violence with existing wars spreading and the possibility that an atomic bomb could be used that would settle our fate lines up with that other swiftly looming environmental crisis as world temperatures provide increased weather violence. We are truly at a crossroads.

There are now over 50,000 American troops in the Mideast.

The arrival of 2,500 Marines and another 2,500 sailors is keeping the number of American troops in the region at roughly 10,000 more than usual.
