Trump now faces reality on Putin!

The President’s fantasies that have prevailed ever since Trump thought Putin was giving him better advice than his intelligence department in his first term are now starkly revealed even to our aspirant dictator!

All along we have seen Trump’s continuing affinity with this vicious dictator, his thinking that somehow his personal connection with Putin would now cause Putin to make the Ukrainian cease-fire offer happen.

Reality is now on the table, and we will see whether former draft dodger Trump has the courage to understand that this could be a long-time effort to stem the tide of Russia’s likely continuing attack on Ukraine!

However, our courage now could repair NATO’s belief that it must go alone without US help. Putin with his intransigence has stiffened even more NATO resolve to stand firm.

Does Trump still want to foster peace and stability in the world? Not yet clear due to his America first statements, ignoring the consequences of ignoring Putin’s wait us out agenda.

Let’s be clear. Russia is in deep trouble over half 1 million of its soldiers have been killed or wounded. His economy is in terrible shape and his standing in the world is certainly not high.

This is the perfect time for Trump to show some backbone, which is something that he and his MAGA GOP have failed to do all along.

Recall that before Pearl Harbor, there was a strong isolationist movement in the United States that allowed Hitler quite a bit of leeway before we finally acted.

That Russia, a nuclear power keeps threatening tactical nuclear use is a factor in everyone’s thinking. However, it must be assumed that, and no one would want to precipitate such an action which could wipe out humans on this planet

Again, the United States needs to stand very clearly with our NATO allies. Trump’s willingness to restore aid to Ukraine, along with the use of our intelligence capabilities, was certainly an encouraging development.

That Zelensky and Trump have apparently been able to reconnect is also vital to a future that should include a continuing stand against Putin.

As noted often, Putin’s strategy has been to wait out the West to see if it has stomach enough to save Ukraine. Anyone with even a glimmer of understanding of the adverse possibilities of not saving Ukraine knows that saving Ukraine is congruent with saving the West from Putin’s continuing attempts to take not only Ukraine but also other new NATO members.

Thankfully, harsh reality has been presented to President Trump in clarity, which should unmask his stupid confidence in dealing with Putin. Rumors of what Putin could expose about the reason for Trump’s need for bend to Putin are as yet unsubstantiated.

Since Trump’s main policy seemed to be to create chaos against everyone and everything the reality of this new confrontation may help restore the loss of America’s reputation as a reliable partner.

However, Trump’s continuing attacks on our closest allies, such as Canada and Mexico will not be improved by his back-and-forth imposition of tariffs which are widely recognized by economists as a tax on consumers.

And the willingness of Trump’s gutless GOP to continue to kiss his ring on any divisive implementation of further chaos seems to give more power to the Democrats than they thought.

The honeymoon for Trump’s second term is now over. With the GOP ramming through this ghastly short term until September funding bill, Democrats did not fail to keep the government open. This well at least keep Trump and his DOGE perpetrator Elon Musk from doing more damage over possibly some months as would have been done had the bill not been approved!

Democratic senators Chuck Schumer and John Fetterman have proved politically canny in picking the right side of Hobson’s Choice as Schumer described his decision.

Ever wonder the origin of this oft used definition of a no-good option? Read the answer here.

Somehow, even in these desperate times for our democracy, the courage of these Democratic senators in not closing the government down gives me a feeling of optimism which I have not felt since the beginning of this frightening second Trump term.
