In a posting on April 9th the Brennen Center for Justice sharply delineates Trump’s evil case for tariff access!

It is a vital that this paragraph from this latest report from the Brennen Center be well understood by the average citizen, so it will be fully quoted below!

This deluge of Constitutional overreaches by the Trump Administration one wonders when the Congress will find his guilt adequate to precipitate Senate impeachment proceedings.

Be it for betraying our Constitution or attacking our international reputation as the main world proponent of freedoms OR for instigating the severe incompetence of his tarrifs, the basis for such action is fully in place!

As my latest book entitled “Common Sense: When will his record be adequate?”

The Brennen Center for Justice sharply delineates Trump’s evil case:

Donald Trump’s tariffs are the biggest tax increase in decades and have upended global markets — the actions of one man possibly plunging the country into recession. The abrupt move scrambled political alliances: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is likely to sue, while the United Auto Workers endorsed the tariffs.

Amid market carnage and political chaos, it can be easy to overlook one key question. I’ll ask it: Wait, can a president do this?! After all, presidents cannot unilaterally set income tax rates. Why is this ok? Conservatives and liberals alike are asking this question.

For answers, I turned to Elizabeth Goitein and Katherine Yon Ebright of the Brennan Center, two of the country’s leading experts on emergency powers (and thus very busy people these days).

Here’s their answer in a nutshell:

Trump used emergency powers to set these tariffs. The International Emergency Economic Powers Act grants presidents special authorities if a national emergency has been declared. Presidents of both parties have stretched the concept of an emergency. But Trump’s proclamation that the decades-old U.S. trade deficit constitutes an emergency — by definition, something sudden and unforeseen — is particularly brazen. The trade deficit may or may not be a problem, but it’s simply not an emergency.

Trump’s deployment of this law is extraordinary for a second reason: it doesn’t include a tariff power. Presidents have used this emergency powers law to restrict imports from targeted countries or to freeze the assets of enemies, but it contains no reference to tariffs and no president has ever used it for this purpose. Yet Trump has slapped tariffs on more than 180 trading partners under the law, including the uninhabited Heard Island and McDonald Islands.

That’s a rather stunning report. This declaration of a trade war against the world turns out to be one of the most audacious and consequential power grabs yet for this imperial presidency.

A friend sent me an illuminating further opinion about Trump’s tariffs which is worth reading:

BY George Skinner:

“It’s long been obvious that Trump is the emperor wearing no clothes: he describes them as the greatest, the best, the most brilliant! His followers want to believe him, so they do, developing complicated and convoluted theories for why they can’t see them even though they plainly must be there. Unlike the fairy tale, though, pointing out that the emperor is naked doesn’t shock his followers into realizing what happened. They simply form a mob to chase down the heretic and beat them into submission.

Occam’s Razor applied for Trump tells us that he’s simply a fairly stupid man, because he’s intellectually lazy, ignorant, and won’t change his mind. I’ve been reading HR McMaster’s memoir of his time in the White House, “At War With Ourselves”. He’s continually striving to defend what the Trump administration was actually trying to do, but it’s also obvious he’s painfully aware that Trump isn’t up to the job. In fact, Trump was constantly undermining himself and all the people who were trying to help him. This has been a relatively gentle memoir; other former members of the Trump administration have been scathing. The problem is that most people continue to hold onto Trump’s self-promotion as some sort of heroic figure, often because they just can’t bring themselves to believe that he could actually be so stupid. If they accept that fact, suddenly everything snaps into focus.”

We are now in the income tax filing season. The 3rd head of the Federal government collection agency the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) just resigned. Fortune and other credible sources carried this disturbing story which bgins, “Third IRS head since Trump’s inauguration resigns because she reportedly wasn’t told about an agreement forcing the agency to give taxpayer data to immigration officials.

You can read that full Fortune story here.

How when Trump wants huge tax cut and adding trillions to the $36 trillion National debt can the IRS be in disarray!

Nothing seems to be working for Trump and his yes men and women advisors.
