Most Americans today are too young to remember when America’s isolationist policies in the 1930s, led by figures like Charles Lindbergh and Joseph Kennedy Sr., kept us disengaged from global affairs until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. That event spurred the nation into action, leading to a mobilization effort that was instrumental in defeating Nazi Germany and preserving freedom across Europe and beyond.

Many people also forget that the development of the atomic bomb depended heavily on key immigrants, such as Albert Einstein, and the leadership of scientists like Oppenheimer and other Jewish refugees.

Currently, with Trump’s newly announced isolationist vision for foreign policy, described as his National Security Strategy, our NATO allies face significant threats—especially since Putin has shown no intention of stopping his war in Ukraine and is emboldened by these new policies. Trump, through persistent discussions involving Secretary of State Rubio and others who support concessions to Putin, is encouraging negotiations even though Putin appears determined to press forward with the conflict into 2026 and beyond.

Fortunately, European NATO countries have recently pledged an additional $9 billion to support Ukraine, recognizing that Ukraine’s defense is vital for all of Europe. Should Putin succeed there, it could trigger further invasions of other NATO nations.

This situation also affects Asia: China’s increased threats have been noted by Japan, which sees regional stability at stake and has committed $4.5 billion to Ukraine’s defense as well.

Under the Trump administration, USAID was dismantled in one of its first moves, ending a program that, for a relatively small investment, helped address extreme poverty around the world with international partners. Now, approximately 250 million people are struggling to survive globally—an outcome that might have been less severe had USAID remained. As a result, many desperate individuals may look to migrate, often toward the U.S. or its European allies.

Now, of course, Trump with Elon’s DOGE desecration has almost destroyed our federal government’s effectiveness, which caused most of the truly qualified veterans in our government to retire or find themselves switched to immigration and other less urgent roles programs when we basically had solved the immigration problem by closing our borders and now we actually needed more immigrants that could do Jobs that are now being unfilled.

Trump’s cuts to crucial research programs could reduce our ability to compete globally, as other nations benefit from these policies. Dismissing the environmental crisis as a hoax overlooks clear evidence of ongoing ecological harm, as highlighted in Elizabeth Kolbert’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “The Sixth Extinction.”

Trump has almost been able to tighten the noose on our democracy as he attacks any who oppose him, even with treats of deaths his public verbiage encourages. This has long turned the GOP into a Doxy party with virtually no courage to oppose him.

Since Citizens United in 2010, billionaires have influenced government through unlimited campaign contributions. While some do not support Trump, they seek control over democracy rather than preserving it, even if this risks their own economic interests and could lead to instability under constitutional protections.

Our democracy cannot likely survive a great divide like we do between Rich and poor, which As severe as in the so-called Gilded Age In the 1890s when the Rockefellers and other rich Oligarchs installed William McKinley as President only to be saved by Theodore Roosevelt and his Trust busting efforts augmented by publicity from a so-called muckrakers in the media. These journalists then captured what Trump calls “fake news”.

Look up that history out of the time of the muckrakers. While you’re there look up more of American history so we don’t go forward and continue doing the same stupid things we’ve been doing when previous situations get reiterated in our own time.

That time in America did not solve the longtime racism against blacks, Jews, and other minority populations, whose immigration to the United States greatly helped to make us the richest and most powerful country in the world.

Whether or not the 2026 midterm election will facilitate a breakdown of Trump throttling of our democracy remains to be seen. James Carville thinks that this will happen, but I await to see how much weak backbone and stupidity we can overcome to get us back on the right track!!!!

Democrats take over the US House of Representatives, but will that party have enough votes to also take over enough of the Senate to indict Trump and put him in jail where he belongs.

Remember how this all started when after January 6,2021 we failed to recognize Trump’s unwillingness to admit that he lost the election in 2020 to Biden and then staged an attack on the US Capitol in an attempt for a coup which was not reacted on by Mitch McConnell and the GOP has Trump’s treason. Jack Smith had then and now the evidence that proved his case of Trump’s treason. Our leaders then and NOW are just too weak.

We were stupid not to act then?? Special Counsel Jack Smith for the January 6 Committee said then that Trump was guilty of outrageous behavior which had never occurred before in our history.

Where are we going next? Just read the above and you will realize that we are all in the Trump created bight because we couldn’t recall the history of that stupid isolationist position that we took before World War II!

If Trump’s seemingly mad behavior makes you think that the threat will diminish itself in the midterm elections, if we can’t take the kinds of action above that many have been arguing for many years to indict and rid ourselves of this menace may still lose our democracy to the greedy billionaires who will capitalize on our ignorance.
