After racist Marjorie Taylor Greene’s tv claim at her Thursday February 5th news conference that the GOP is Trump’s party, the die was cast for the only plausible antidote to the fatal poisoning of the GOP’s reputation, proven by the 4 year record of the now emerging record the Trump years capped by his January 6th promotion of the historic insurrection at the Capitol!
Greene’s actions suggest she should not be a lawmaker. She filed articles of impeachment against Joe Biden, spread QAnon and election fraud conspiracy theories, and shown support for the execution of prominent Democrats. But let’s not dwell on her as “the fake media” (Trump’s favorite description of our blessed fourth estate) as she is already toast thanks the mass media’s widespread use of her own pubic statements.
So ironically lucky for America that his earlier despicable acts, such as Trump’s calling Georgia election officials on a recorded line to get them to find 11000 votes to steal Biden’s election victory in Georgia, was followed up by Trump’s life long record of “fixing” which lead to his final (for now) dramatic exposure of his tragic efforts to foster that January 6th insurrection just as our Congress was in the process of certifying the oft scrubbed Presidential election results from the Electoral College sent in by the states.
Perhaps this example of our governments’ following a hallowed tradition is reason enough to defer elimination of the Electoral College, since it is part of another worthy tradition like showing up for the inauguration of one’s Presidential predecessor!
Senator Mitch McConnell, you NOW have no other option except your vote, however futile it may seem to some members of your infected party, to convict Trump at his Senate trial starting on February 9th.
The fact of your 4 year willingness to support Trump for expedient political reasons need not obscure the reason for your now perfectly expedient political reasons to vote to convict a traitor, only this time to perhaps help save our two party electoral system. After all, Senator, you certainly weren’t the only Republican who slavishly cow towed to the grand PooBah, who after being sworn in as President, eloquently began his litany of lying with his estimate crowd size at his inauguration.
There are a lot of good people on your side of the aisle, Senator, who you will help with your vote. However angered wafflers like Kevin McCarthy will be, at least your wife Elaine Chao should be comforting.
I bet your Senate position will be even stronger as Minority Leader as all these former and/or present closet deniers of concern about Trump will be delighted with your conviction vote.
