In reading “I Alone Can Fix It” on page 437, authors Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker state that on January 2nd, as January 6th approached, they quote the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mark A. Milley thusly: “This is a Reichstag moment,” Milley told aides. “The gospel of the Führer.”

To me the key witness to call in the House Commission on January 6th is Milley who can confirm that the intent of Trump was to perform a coup to continue his presidency.
Milley’s statement followed days of Trump screaming to the media and everyone he encountered about “The Big Lie” and how he was going to change the November 3rd election results despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Reading the final chapters of this masterful reporting job, “I Alone Can Fix It” proves Pelosi’s belief that Trump is crazy.

By the evidence which the Commission will present it will be clear Trump wanted to engineer a Hitler like coup.
At the very least the Commission’s findings will persuade most Americans how close Trump came to producing a disarray with his mad efforts and should never again achieve political office or power.
I predict a vast abandon ship based on this clear SOS.
That the law and the brave persons like Joint Chief Mark Milley who made sure it didn’t happen, doesn’t change the fact that Trump —even if he didn’t realize his urging Pence to not perform his limited legal duty of formally acknowledging the verdict of the Electoral College was off the wall impossible—was guilty of a treasonous crime and should if proven guilty (and how could he not be?) deserving of jail time.
In short, whether the chances for a successful coup were in retrospect slim, Trump’s felonious intent must be recognized and he convicted.
And as Milley feared Trump really did seek a “Reichstag moment” which allowed Hitler to take full power in Germany in 1933.
Many others will join Milley in testimony under oath that will frighten and educate all of us.
