In the last scene of his 2hour November 5th CNN special entitled “Trumping Democracy: An American Coup”, host Jake Tapper recited that famous line uttered by the attorney for the army, Joseph Welch, on June 9, 1954 in the hearing before Senator Joe McCarthy on one of his notorious anti-communists interrogations. This comment signaled the onset of McCarthy’s downfall and in 1957 he died in disgrace.
You can read that history, courtesy of Wikipedia here.
Joseph Nye Welch (October 22, 1890 – October 6, 1960) was an American lawyer and actor who served as the chief counsel for the United States Army while it was under investigation for Communist activities by Senator Joseph McCarthy’s Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, an investigation known as the Army-McCarthy hearings. His confrontation with McCarthy during the hearings, in which he famously asked McCarthy “At long last, have you left no sense of decency?” is seen as a turning point in the history of McCarthyism.
On June 9, 1954, the 30th day of the Army-McCarthy hearings, Welch challenged Roy Cohn to provide U.S. Attorney General Herbert Brownell Jr. with McCarthy’s list of 130 Communists or subversives in defense plants “before sundown”. McCarthy stepped in and said that if Welch was so concerned about persons aiding the Communist Party, he should check on a man in his Boston law office named Fred Fisher, who had once belonged to the National Lawyers Guild, which Brownell had called “the legal mouthpiece of the Communist Party”. Welch had privately discussed the matter with Fisher beforehand and the two agreed Fisher should not participate in the hearings. Welch dismissed Fisher’s association with the NLG as a youthful indiscretion and attacked McCarthy for naming the young man before a nationwide television audience without prior warning or previous agreement to do so.
I was watching TV when Welch made that fateful statement, something I have never forgotten.
Jake Tapper’s masterful, meticulous presentation should frighten us all as he got as his main Trump accusers to testify the few brave Republicans who despite their conservative political views, strongly castigated Trump and their own Republican colleagues for not standing up against Trump’s attempted coup!

CNN SPECIAL REPORT TRUMPING DEMOCRACY: AN AMERICAN COUP
https://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2021/11/01/cnn-special-report-trumping-democracy-an-american-coup/Reported by CNN’s Jake Tapper, Airs Friday, November 5 at 9pmET
The January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol was the most visible piece of Donald Trump’s push to overthrow the results of a free and fair U.S. election. Before election day itself even began, Trump led a disinformation campaign attacking the credibility of the election, and as votes were still being counted, pressured local, state, and federal legislators to disenfranchise millions of voters, even twisting the arms of leaders in the Justice Department, to help orchestrate a second term. Join CNN Anchor and Chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper for interviews and details never before heard from key Republican officials on just how close the nation came to losing the democracy many of us hold so precious – and what Trump and his team are planning for 2024. CNN Special Report TRUMPING DEMOCRACY: An American Coup airs Friday, November 5 at 9pmET.
CNN Special Report TRUMPING DEMOCRACY: An American Coup will stream live for subscribers via CNNgo (CNN.com/go and via CNNgo apps for Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Chromecast, Samsung Smart TV and Android TV) and on the CNN mobile apps for iOS and Android. The special will be available on demand beginning Saturday, November 6 via cable/satellite systems, CNN go platforms and CNN mobile apps.

That Welch admonition recalls the evil linkage with Trump. McCarthy’s General Counsel for those hearings was none other than Trump’s long time behavioral mentor, Roy Cohn, whose corrupt career and his ties with Trump are well documented. Read here.
So here we are, the yet to be convicted felon, except in the court of public opinion, ex-President, still plotting his next coup and still in charge of the GOP’s corrupt leaders as they try to rig state voting laws, so in the midterms and in 2024 Trump or perhaps his clone, can run and win.
Now Rudy Giuliani, Cohn’s successor as Trump’s personal attorney, seems even more blatantly willing to lie, cheat and steal for his Master.
Let’s repeat Welch’s famous words: “At long last have you left no sense of decency?”

Stay sleeping, Folks, and this Trump scenario will happen. Meantime you will be bombarded with a plethora of outrageous emails.
Doubtless paid for by some duplicitous rich greedy donors who want to get on the Trump bandwagon.
Meantime the grift from the Trumpians goes on as the US House Committee investigating the January 6th insurrection demands testimony from yet another miscreant. Read here.

Trump has been impeached twice, unique in American history. Could a well-earned third time indictment prove to be the charm?
