The House January 6th Commission has now gathered a trove of insider information about efforts made to reverse an election that was certified by numerous counts and recounts to have been decisively won by Mr. Biden.
I am not a lawyer, just an anxious citizen.
As a regular observer of the mass media, I found implausible that Trump, dubbed as a sore loser on January 6th by not attending Biden’s inauguration, claiming election fraud, and one who impugned our free media as “fake” to join his other lying efforts to destroy our democracy, has still been able to elude prosecution for his obvious criminal behavior.
When the House Commissioner’s 1/6 report is issued, what legal actions against Trump and his co-felons are we likely to see?
Those efforts may prove highly elusive, as I will attempt to summarize here. A friend just sent me a copy of the powerful December 9, 2021 piece by Barton Gellman in the Atlantic Monthly which I found are most troubling.
If you read nothing else this week, this month or this year, I urge you to read this article, which begins with this title: “Trump’s Next coup has already begun”. Then its sub-headlines which are: “January 6 was practice. Donald Trump’s GOP is much better positioned to subvert the next election.”
As I noted in my last Op Ed, famed investor Ray Dalio, predicted the chance for an American civil war is 30 percent, although he didn’t specify when, but this article certainly does.
After reading this article, which you can here, I was shaking in disbelief, but absolutely in agreement with the devastating chronical Gellman has carefully researched of the very likely coup events Trump and his GOP allies have planned to get him a second term as president.
The next Trump coup will be staged from outside, but don’t count on its failure just because he won’t have the powers of an incumbent president. Coup 2.0 will be better prepared, funded, and organized. We’ll need to work like hell to combat it. https://t.co/BIYWdNJ3Qb

In my recent Op Ed pieces, I have been very careful to elucidate the many evils of Trump and his minions, but I have neither the contacts, extensive experience or the writing skills and competence of this seasoned veteran. Who is Gellman? Read here his reportorial accomplishments with articles and books:

In this seminally important wakeup call to voters of all parties and persuasions, Gellman has cohesively elaborated the exhaustive, illegally dangerous details of what was done before January 6th, what has since occurred, and what might prove to be a coup in 2024, based on the strength of this conservative manic tidal wave against democracy.
Who just gave Trump's social media start-up $1 billion? They aren't saying, and maybe it's just your average investor. But buying access is buying access and Trump's a national security threat, so why isn't he disclosing his backers' identities. My column: https://t.co/kY6dKNNcyQ

What is the primary driving force for these phony patriots for winning future elections by any means possible? Gellman makes the point that these folks are different than earlier protests by young dissidents. These participants ae mostly older, often quite well educated, some dangerously articulate like Trump with their aberrant points of view.
As Gellman so eloquently and convincingly reports, these radicals are really hiding under in the guise of a false patriotism which is predominantly driven by their fears of becoming a racial minority. That change will happen by the 2040’s, but meantime we can hope to educate and positively inculcate any newcomers with the uniqueness and value of our fragile experiment, not expand racial injustice through the theft of our democracy’s benefits by racist oligarchs.
