So far requests for appearances by GOP leaders with the House Commission on January 6th have mostly been declined.
Embarrassing? One would think so, but then the high standard set by the former President for telling us lies probably saves the Commission from hearing more lies.
The latest decliner House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy who has called the Commission “illegitimate”. Read about his position here.
No thanks, says House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy, rejecting a request by the Jan. 6 committee seeking information about his conversations with then-President Trump on the day of the Capitol riot. @lindsaywise https://t.co/A6w3NrXH4i

Another prominent House member, Jim Jordan, likely won’t come either. Read here.
Jan. 6 Panel Seeks Meeting With GOP Rep. Jim Jordan – WSJ We know Jordan is a lot of talk. Let’s see if has the backbone to show up. If he does my bet is the needle on BS meter gets buried. https://t.co/xm7EOCu7ul

The obfuscation of the non-governing GOP was abetted in the first place with Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell’s refusal to allow a bi-partisan Commission on the January 6th insurrection as had occurred on bi-partisan votes with Watergate and 911.
Hiding the truth has been SOP by the GOP ever since, but if the Supreme Court, as it should, declines to take Trump’s case to stop the releasing of his papers, more facts on his deep involvement in the foster, planning and implementing an attempt to stop the transfer of power should make the Commission’s findings with its report is issued sufficient to spur the US Justice Department to take up Trump’s case. The Commission wants early access as you can read here.

That won’t solve the problems created by the GOP’s failure to govern, which was what McConnell promised when Biden was elected by a huge margin, a fact disputed by Trump and kowtowed to by his acolytes but proved true by all recounts.
After McConnell’s outrageous position on not favoring finding the truth about January 6th, we could tell big trouble lay ahead for getting constructive legislation enacted.
Why would anyone vote to install such a party in the midterms?
Corrupt, uncaring, incompetent, racist and arrogant are words that easily come to mind.
Putin, after Trump’s frequent endorsement over the word of his own officials, is now poised to initiate the worst war threat in Europe since the end of WWII. Trump’s incompetence in managing a whole range of foreign affairs has required careful renegotiations. Example: Iran. Read about that here.
Efforts to revive the Iran nuclear deal have been hauled back from the brink of collapse as Tehran revised its stance after pressure from Russia and China and clear warnings that the EU and the U.S. were preparing to walk away.https://t.co/wWWlTugPE6

COVID management has proved difficult but again positive progress has been achieved after Trump’s leaving a mess.
Inflation is up, but with jobs plentiful and unemployment at historically low levels, the economy is booming.
Oh, another point. Biden believes in the fair right to vote in our democratic system, which is now under attack by numerous GOP controlled legislatures. This of course constitutes a fundamental attack on our democracy by the GOP! Unimaginable, but very real as explained in my prior columns.
Politico tells us that
President Joe Biden will attend a special caucus meeting with Senate Democrats Thursday, (that’s 1/13) as the party makes a concerted effort to pass elections reform and voting legislation.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed that the chamber will vote by Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on proposed rules changes that might make it easier to pass the bill. But at the moment, Democrats don’t have the 50 votes necessary to change those rules.

So how can voters opt this Fall for the GOP? How much will the votes be rigged by then? Hard to imagine.
