Many Gutless GOP Members of Congress Have Ceded Our Freedom and Honor to Their Oligarchs!

Instead of reacting in fury at the several attacks instigated by Donald Trump on our basic freedoms his trifecta elected GOP are saying that pardoning all of those who attacked our capital on January 6, 2021, was okay. Time to ignore the obscenity of this crime and move on! Not hardly!! Even some these gutless hypocrites to glean Trump approbation are reiterating that we should be remembering that January 6th was a peaceful protest.

Ah, yes, you GOP cowards will always try to excuse these legally litigated convictions was an okay reason to pardon everyone, including the leaders of the most militant groups, the Oath Takers and the Proud Boys which will allow these terrorists the future option of having another Charlottesville type gathering. Or to perhaps attacks on those who testified against them at trial or in the media. The fear of reprisals will persist regardless. Let’s watch carefully for examples if they occur.

The Trump GOP was so worried about the dangers of the immigrants who mostly were coming here to work and raise families, but Trump dismissed concern about hundreds of pardoned criminal citizens regrouping to commit more terrorism.

To many of us, this pardoning act alone was more than an adequate grounds for initiating an impeachment of Trump, thus leading to his indictment by the Senate and his removal from the office!! Perhaps former Senate Leader Mitch McConnell might lead the change as his chance to keep Trump from ever serving again was ignored.

Of course, full respect for the rule of law has been broken for decades if not forever, always to be referred to as outrageous by historians or citizens who believed in justice delivered by a group of randomly chosen peers to heard the evidence and make a choice.

Another reason for impeachment, perhaps more important in its overall effect was to remove our participation in the World Health Organization which the United States cofounded in 1948.

Then of course his refusal to retain our financial and moral participation with the over 29 meetings or UN coalition on the climate crisis (which Trump calls a hoax) in efforts with most other large countries. As scientists have repeated said about the urgency of our earth to curb global warming, this postions simply adds to the list of Trump actions which will be growing rapidly that seem inevitably leading us toward the Sixth Extinction or at very least quickly reversed to a far less quality of life for everyone worldwide.

Recognizing as most observers do that the present ebullient monopoly of GOP power, such an action will not yet prove possible, nor will Trump’s continuing criminality be stopped immediately but surely as rapidly as possible, the above reversible actions need to take place to restore some chance for human civilization to serve on a planet of finite size as the population grew from 2000 at 6.2 billion to its present number of over 8 billion today.

Recognition of the implications which this population number now represents has consistently failed to inspire action on the part of top world leaders, mostly in the major polluting countries such as the United States.

Again, we are talking about the lack of courage and the dominance of greed among too many of the billionaire oligarchs who have bought governments here and elsewhere. Prime example, look at Elon Musk with his denied Hitler salute and his cultivation of the most extreme right leaders worldwide as providing a vision for the future.

I didn’t see Warren Buffett at Trump’s Inauguration oath taking—in 2016 Buffett had decried Trump and perhaps will do so again. However, he will doubtless consider the intimidation factor of having the most powerful man in the world –or is that Elon Musk??—ready to make mischief for Berkshire Hathaway’s huge corporate interests and the interests of his faithful stockholders. Likely will again.

Buffett’s longtime partner Charlie Munger, who died in November 2023 at 99, once said, “Roll with it, Trump isn’t wrong on everything: what the hell, you’re not going to live forever anyway.” He died last year at 99 and we can hope our democracy lasts another few years without being destroyed. Bet Charley wouldn’t have said that now.

The Key question: What Trump iniquity would prompt our citizens and our Congress to say enough?

For now, we can just keep hammering the recitations of Trump’s criminal behavior as he tightens the screws on our democracy!

In this 2024 election, the vast ignorance of a substantial number of our citizens allowed them to believe his avalanche of lies and to choose Trump to fix food prices and inflation will find they were mistaken.

Trump has already been impeached twice but now again needs impeached again and indicted!

Impossible now to know which of his many orders and actions will anger our Congress enough to take such action. Will it eventually prove to be the Proud Boys and Oath Taker pardons or the WHO withdrawal or the accumulation of many more?? Stay tuned!
