As the avalanche of confusing offerings by President Trump during his first two weeks in office, it has almost become impossible for even sophisticated observers to sort out the implications of what he intends to pursue in dismantling our federal government.
However, enough information is clearly available to realize that he intends to seek to install loyalists in key administrative positions, which had been long staffed by competent specialists so that we could best utilize the money that Congress has voted to provide.
Suddenly, a friend sent me an email which contained a modernized version of the quote made famous by German clergyman Martin Niemöller.
First from Hitler’s Holocaust era quote from Niemöller.
First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Read about him in full here.

Now the Trump era quote:
First, they came for those needing federal aid and I did not speak out because I was not in need of federal aid.
Then they came for the federal employees, and I did not speak out because I was not a federal employee.
Then they came for the Medicaid recipients, and I did not speak out because I was not a Medicaid recipient.
Then they came for the immigrants, and I did not speak out because I was not an immigrant.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me!
The first commercial air disaster in 16 years happened shortly after Trump froze hiring air traffic controllers, fired the FAA director, and politicized air safety.

One may think that this line of parallel thinking is too extreme, but the Trump administration has four more years in which to continue to perpetrate reduction of help for our poor citizens and continue to allow his racism to remain untended by such cancellations as the DEI programs.
If we fail to understand that we are at a watershed moment in our democracy, we shall not have one by the end of the Trump term, which may not end since he possibly could find a corrupt way of amending our constitution in which he persists in ignoring it and serving a 3rd term. Or we could get the next President to be JD Vance, a Trump clone, who will have learned tyranny at the feet of the master.
