Bill Maher got played for a sucker Twice on Saturday April 12th!
Mr Maher is a very funny and sophisticated comedian whose program I watch religiously every Saturday night.
I was therefore genuinely taken aback by his analysis of the recent dinner he had at the White House with Donald Trump.
It seems Maher found the president very calm and unwilling to take umbrage when he asked the president to confirm that he lost the 2020 election.
There were several other instances which prompted Maher to postulate that underneath all the nasty attacks he was basically a good fellow.
This implied analysis came although on numerous occasions, Trump had labeled Maher with numerous nasty names. Maher brought a printed list of Trump attacks which the president signed apparently proving to Maher that they were not truly meant.
Several people agreed with me about Maher’s take on Trump.
Then, in one evening of his sad attempts to be open minded about positions in opposition to what Mayer has expressed on previous occasions he invited Steve Bannon for an interview during which Bannon assured his interrogator that Trump would be elected to a third term.
I strenuously object to this program, which Maher claimed many of us liberals would, but that he would give a platform to people who keep lying, cheating and taking attacks on our basic freedoms as a means of gaining control of our democracy.

Mr Maher, this is not mean that I will stop watching your program because I find your sophisticated humor to my liking. You have a deep understanding of history and the way in which our democracy works, but you made a terrible error in giving airtime to people whose only goal seems to be gain personal power by making our country fail.
The history of villains behaving privately as jovial, compassionate, honorable human beings is well documented.
None better documented than this 4/14/25 article from the Washington Post by Dan Diamond “a White House reporter for the Post, with a focus on policy and public health. His email is dan.diamond@washpost.com and you can reach him on Signal at @dan_diamond.01.follow on X@ddiamond”
I quote the article as it shows the folly of Maher’s statements about the criminal lout who is now our President.
After a decade of trading insults, Trump and Maher enjoyed a White House dinner. Liberals continue to wrestle with whether to engage the president as they oppose him.
It sound like a joke that Bill Maher might tell: A comedian, a rapper and the U.S. president sat down at the White House for dinner.
But the actual meeting between Maher and President Donald Trump — brokered by musician Kid Rock last month — was filled with serious conversation about policy, sprinkled with humor and included a personal tour of the White House led by the president, the longtime political comic said on “Real Time with Bill Maher” this weekend.
And the punch line — that Maher found the president “gracious and measured,” and able to laugh at himself — landed flat with many of Maher’s fans, who have spent years watching the comedian pummel Trump with jokes mocking his morals, sanity and intelligence.
Trump gave Maher “a very generous amount of time, and a willingness to listen and accept me as a possible friend,” Maher said on his program, describing their hours-long meeting and meal on March 31. A self-described “old-school liberal,” Maher said he accepted the invitation to join Trump — who sued Maher in 2013 for suggesting that Trump was the son of an orangutan — in a bid for comity, not comedy.
The remarks amounted to a win for the White House: One of the president’s most prominent critics, for a night, spent 13 minutes on a monologue humanizing Trump, rather than caricaturing or attacking him. Maher’s program airs Fridays on HBO and Saturdays on CNN; video clips often receive millions of views on social media. Elon Musk, Trump’s billionaire ally, shared a video of Maher’s remarks that had received more than 55 million views as of Monday morning.
Maher’s decision to meet with Trump after trading insults for more than a decade also reflects the broader political recalibration by some liberals in the wake of Trump’s victory last year. California Gov. Gavin Newsom — a possible Democratic candidate for the 2028 presidential nomination — made his own pilgrimage to Maher’s show last month, where the governor decried the Democrats’ brand as “toxic” and defended his decision to court conservatives on his podcast.
Although Maher said he wanted his White House visit to build bridges, his monologue may have burned some. Social media forums devoted to Maher’s program were filled with laments, such as a Reddit thread with the title “I think I’m out,” as fans said they planned to stop watching his program. Others asked why Maher was prioritizing a cordial dinner at the White House rather than the president’s push for mass deportations, flirtation with an unconstitutional third term and other initiatives that have alarmed liberal lawmakers, prompted lawsuits and led Maher himself to warn that the Constitution is imperiled.
Trump charmed Bill Maher. The comedian’s fans don’t find it funny. https://t.co/AliqBuluFr

As noted above I plan to watch Maher in his future capers on Saturday night on CNN, but he certainly proved his judgement on Trump needs fixed, as Trump’s dangerous anti-Constitutional actions daily confirm.
On his 4/19 program Maher claimed he did not sell out in his Trump dinner which may be true.
He certainly contributed criticism of Trump so I am going to forgive his giving Trump an under deserved platform as his voice is legitimate and sorely needed.
